Over 100 economists and business leaders discuss growth strategies at Shidler 2025 Conference

On July 5, 2025, Van Lang University in collaboration with Shidler College of Business - University of Hawai'i at Mānoa organized the Shidler Global Leadership Summit 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City, with the theme "Positioning the new global order: Strategies to enhance adaptation and growth capacity for Vietnamese enterprises".

The event was participated by Prof. Dr. Vance Roley - Dean of Shidler College of Business, President of First Hawaiian Bank for Management & Leadership; Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Tung - Academic Director of VEMBA program, President of Matson Navigation Company for Global Business; along with many senior leaders, economic experts, scholars who are students and of the alumni Executive Master of Business Administration program, from leading corporations such as Stavian Group, Diversatek Healthcare, Dacotex Group, B'Lao & Scavi Group, Lotus Group, Gearment Inc., Quoc Viet Seafood, Hai Anh JSC, MOTUL Vietnam, Chubb Life Vietnam... to discuss strategies to enhance the competitiveness and integration of Vietnamese enterprises in the context of profound fluctuations in geopolitics and global trade.

At the opening session, Ms. Bui Pham Lan Phuong - Vice President of Van Lang University - spoke as a co-organizer, academic partner and alumni of the international MBA program. She emphasized the shifting context of the global order and the requirements for Vietnamese enterprises to improve their ability to adapt and integrate into new value chains.

The Shidler Global Leadership Summit 2025 included three in-depth discussion sessions, designed from context identification to solution suggestions. The first discussion session focused on the overall picture of Vietnam's business environment in the context of global geo-economic fluctuations. Speakers analyze trends that are reshaping international trade and investment flows, especially the impact of new supply chain models such as nearshoring, friendshoring and reshoring. Representatives of businesses in key industries shared their strategies for strategic adaptation, demonstrating the proactiveness of the business sector in enhancing resilience to external risks and increasing flexibility in business operations.

At the second panel discussion, speakers discussed the possibility of Vietnamese enterprises participating more deeply in Global Supply Chain 2.0 in the context of the global supply chain shifting strongly after China +1. Factors such as integrated capacity, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) standards, traceability and quality control are increasingly emphasized. To participate more deeply in the global supply chain, Vietnam needs to improve its transparent and stable investment environment and upgrade its institutional infrastructure to meet the increasing requirements of this supply chain system.

Closing the discussion series, the Open Forum session – Business Strategy & Value Chain Restructuring brought together representatives from policy-making agencies, academia and businesses to discuss the role of the link between policy, market and knowledge. The content of this session focuses on long-term strategic orientation to improve industry productivity and business adaptability to increasingly complex fluctuations in the global economy.

This is the second time Van Lang University has collaborated with the Shidler College of Business – University of Hawai'i to organize the SHIDLER Summit, marking a new development in international cooperation, especially in the fields of postgraduate training and global strategy research. The conference is not only an academic forum but also a real bridge between state management agencies, academia, the business community and international experts.

Established in 1995, Van Lang University is one of the largest private universities in Vietnam, currently offering 60 regular undergraduate programs, 16 Master's programs and 01 PhD program. With theeducational philosophy of "Through experiential learning, training comprehensive people, capable of lifelong learning, ethics, influence and bringing positive changes to the community", Van Lang constantly expands international cooperation to bring opportunities to access global knowledge for domestic learners.

In the postgraduate field, Van Lang University cooperates with Shidler College of Business – University of Hawai'i at Mānoa (USA) to implement the VEMBA program in Ho Chi Minh City. This is an English-taught program, with a team of tutors meeting the international accreditation standards of AACSB – considered the “gold standard” in the field of business training in the world.

After more than 20 years of operation in Vietnam, the VEMBA program has nearly trained 1,000 students, many of whom are currently holding executive roles in enterprises, international organizations and public agencies. The implementation of this program at Van Lang University not only expands learning opportunities for middle and senior managers, but also contributes to affirming Van Lang's growing capacity and role in the high-quality, internationally integrated higher education ecosystem.
