Supporting Vietnamese crew on ship attacked by Houthi

The leader of the Vietnam Maritime Administration said that on March 7, the agency received a dispatch from Hai Phong Maritime Investment, Trade and Services Company Limited (HP Marine) regarding the Vietnamese crew member on the True Confidence ship who had an accident.

The True Confidence ship has 20 crew members, including 3 Vietnamese crew members.

Accordingly, the True Confidence ship (IMO number: 9460784, flying the Barbados flag) was on its way from Singapore to Jeddah - Saudi Arabia when it was hit by a missile. There were 20 crew members and 3 escort guards on board, including 4 Vietnamese crew members.

Three crew members were killed and several others were injured. One Vietnamese crew member was killed, while the other three Vietnamese crew members were in stable condition . The entire crew was taken to the hotel.

Due to the sudden and dangerous situation, the crew members who escaped from the ship did not have any identification documents with them. Only the captain, a Vietnamese, could be contacted by phone.

The Vietnam Maritime Administration requested the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt to assist in protecting the rights of the above-mentioned Vietnamese crew members and bringing them back to the country.

Previously, Hai Phong Marine Investment, Trade and Services Company Limited (HP Marine) said that the company had signed a contract to send Vietnamese people to work abroad for the True Confidence ship.

On March 6, the company received information that the ship was hit by a missile while en route from Singapore to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

After receiving the information, the company notified the crew members' families and is working with relevant parties to protect the crew members' rights and bring them home.

As reported by Giao Thong Newspaper, the True Confidence ship was attacked by Houthis in the Gulf of Aden. One Vietnamese sailor and two Filipino sailors were killed. In addition, two Filipino sailors were seriously injured.

Previously, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that at around 11:30 a.m. Yemen time on March 6, the Liberian-owned cargo ship True Confidence was attacked by Houthis with anti-ship ballistic missiles.

The cargo ship is owned by Liberian shipping company True Confidence Shipping and is operated by Greek company Third January Maritime.
