Coach Peter Cklamovski satisfied after victory over Vietnam team |
Yesterday, Malaysia defeated Vietnam 4-0 in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers with a starting lineup that included nine naturalized players. Among them, two South American strikers, Joao Figueiredo and Holgado, had just qualified to play before the match. Figueiredo is the main striker for Istanbul Basaksehir, the club ranked 5th in the Turkish championship. Holgado is a star for América de Cali in the Colombian championship.
Figueiredo and Holgado were the first to score the first two goals, opening the victory for Malaysia with an outstanding performance. However, coach Peter Cklamovski affirmed that Malaysia won against Vietnam thanks to the collective strength, not the individual mark of the naturalized players.
Speaking after the match, the Australian coach said: “I think we played well from the first half. Even though the first half score was 0-0, we created scoring opportunities. The important thing is that we maintained our focus in the second half, working hard as a team.”
“You can see we don’t depend on any one player, we depend on the 11 players on the pitch. Everything went very well. All the players on the pitch, including those who came off the bench, played well and the goals kept coming.”
With a 4-0 victory, Malaysia took the top spot in Group F from Vietnam and has a big advantage in the race for a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup. If they win all 2 matches against Nepal and Laos, Malaysia only needs to not lose to Vietnam by more than 3 goals in the second leg to get a ticket.
