Accordingly, 5 players were not on the final list including goalkeeper Pham Dinh Hai, defenders Nguyen Hong Phuc, Ho Van Cuong, midfielder Nguyen Duc Viet and striker Bui Alex. Previously, coach Kim Sang Sik had reduced the squad from 35 to 28 players after two practice matches with U23 Chinese Taipei.
Coach Kim Sang Sik highly appreciated the serious training spirit and efforts of all the players throughout the past time. However, because the tournament regulations only allow a maximum of 23 players to be registered, the coaching staff must make the most optimal choice based on the role, playing position and performance of each individual.

Among the players who did not participate, the case of Vietnamese-American striker Bui Alex received attention. The player who is playing for the youth team Bohemians Praha 1905 (third division of the Czech Republic) showed a lot of potential in his first time participating in the training session with U23 Vietnam.
Staying until the final list stage is considered a positive start for this young striker and coach Kim Sang Sik hopes Bui Alex will continue to make efforts to expand his opportunities in the upcoming training sessions.
According to the plan, the Vietnam U23 team will leave for Indonesia on the morning of July 14 to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, taking place from July 15 to July 29. In the group stage, Vietnam U23 is in Group B with Laos U23 and Cambodia U23, competing on July 19 and July 22 respectively.
Having won the championship for the last two consecutive seasons (2022, 2023), the Vietnam U23 team continues to receive great expectations from fans in their journey to defend the throne.

However, coach Kim Sang Sik affirmed that the whole team will approach the tournament with a high spirit of concentration and not be subjective: "Winning consecutive championships is something to be proud of, but we do not want to put too much pressure on the players.
Football is a team sport , I always promote team spirit and discipline in competition. I always encourage the players to see this tournament as an opportunity to grow and develop, rather than just aiming for results. The results, in my opinion, will be the natural consequence of that process."
Coach Kim Sang Sik added that this tournament is also an opportunity for the coaching board to test and evaluate the team for the upcoming U23 Asian qualifiers and SEA Games. “The tournament is an opportunity for the coaching board to evaluate the ability of each player and find combinations for tactical cohesion.
For young players, this is also a valuable opportunity to gain international competition experience," said coach Kim Sang Sik.
