Happy smile

The family of Ms. Ha Thi Thien, Tan Hung village, Thanh Phong commune (Nhu Xuan) is happy to have a child.

The arduous journey to find the cry of a child

After a period of getting to know each other, in 2004, Ms. Ha Thi Thien and Mr. Ha Van Ban, Tan Hung village, Thanh Phong commune (Nhu Xuan) got married. In a house always filled with happiness for the young couple, Mr. Ban and Ms. Thien tried hard to work and save money to have their first child. However, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, then 4 years passed, they still had no good news and the couple decided to pack up, take a bus to Hanoi to have a check-up and find out the reason. After a long and difficult process over the past 21 years with the hope of having a child, the couple fell into disappointment.

“Going to many places for examination was not only costly but also extremely painful, hope and then disappointment were endless. After being consulted by many people, my husband and I decided to go to the Department of Reproductive Support, Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital for examination and the doctor concluded that we had bilateral fallopian tube blockage, the possibility of natural pregnancy was very low. Therefore, after being consulted by the doctor, my husband and I agreed to use the in vitro fertilization (IVF) method” - Ms. Thien confided.

Accompanying each other throughout the process of “finding” a child, despite the fatigue, hardships, and difficulties, they always encouraged and comforted each other with the strong belief that if they were “destined”, the child would come to them. And after many days of waiting and anxiety, on June 3, 2025, the couple burst into joy and happiness when their two chubby, healthy little boys were born.

“Every time we think back to our journey of “finding” a child, my wife and I are deeply moved as we experience many emotions, from anxiety, anticipation, hope, disappointment and then hope again. Our child is a priceless gift that life has bestowed upon us,” said Ha Van Ban.

The family of Mr. Ha Van Ban and Ms. Ha Thi Thien is not the only case thanks to assisted reproductive techniques, but there are many couples who have been helped and successfully treated for infertility by the team of doctors, technicians, and staff of the Department of Assisted Reproduction, Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital.

Sharing hope, "nurturing" happiness

The Department of Reproductive Support was established in April 2004. Over the years, with the attention of the hospital's board of directors, the team of doctors and nurses in the department have continuously learned and improved their professional qualifications, while applying many advanced techniques with modern, synchronous equipment, which has brought a high success rate in infertility treatment. The pregnancy rate from in vitro fertilization techniques has been increasingly improved, from 33% in 2014 to over 65% now.

This is also the first provincial unit in Vietnam to master in vitro fertilization techniques. The department is always at the forefront of implementing new techniques, regularly updating knowledge both domestically and internationally according to specialized and in-depth programs, proficiently applying new techniques equivalent to major hospitals in the country; focusing on improving professional activities, focusing on improving the capacity of staff, and being able to master technology. The department has focused on perfecting embryo freezing procedures using the rapid embryo freezing method to serve cases requiring embryo freezing, sperm freezing, IVF egg donation, implementing IVF, IVF/ICSI and PESA-ICSI with high success rates. The department has also mastered all reproductive support techniques in infertility treatment, bringing high results, increasing the number of babies born from in vitro fertilization techniques to more than 2,000 babies and many other pregnancies are waiting for birth.

Master, Doctor Cao Thi Dung, Head of the Department of Reproductive Support, Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, said: “In addition to the advanced techniques applied in treatment such as in vitro fertilization, embryo membrane support, testicular surgery to find sperm, we also apply the use of embryo glue for 100% of embryo transfer cases. All of these have created the expected results as present, adding strength and motivation to infertile couples on their journey to find their beloved children. We will try harder to “nurture” happiness for infertile families, bringing opportunities and happiness to fathers and mothers.”
