At the regular press conference of the second quarter of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the afternoon of June 19, Mr. Hoang Ninh - Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - said that recently, this agency has coordinated with e-commerce platforms to request and review the removal of many counterfeit goods, fake goods, and goods that violate intellectual property rights.

In 6 months, the platforms have removed more than 33,000 products and handled more than 11,000 violating stores. In the coming time, the Department is developing the Law on E-commerce, the policies on the law have been recently approved by the Government Standing Committee.

It is expected that many regulations to protect consumers will be included in this Law, such as identifying sellers to trace the origin, knowing who the seller is, facilitating consumer protection, tax collection, etc.

The Department will also require exchanges to better promote their role. Currently, according to regulations, exchanges have a role in monitoring and checking counterfeit and fake goods. The new law will increase this requirement of exchanges.

"At the same time, the Department will also have a policy requiring cross-border e-commerce platforms to register legal entities or authorize businesses in Vietnam. If a dispute arises, the authorized legal entity itself will be responsible to the State management agency on behalf of the platforms," the leader of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy shared.

The Department will implement four solutions to limit counterfeit and fake goods, including improving institutions, increasing the application of technology such as AI, blockchain to trace the origin of goods and checking counterfeit and fake goods. The Department will also strengthen international cooperation to have a dispute resolution mechanism, and enhance coordination with agencies and ministries to check and check counterfeit and fake goods.

"In particular, we need to increase propaganda for people to distinguish between fake and counterfeit goods on the internet. There is no such thing as branded goods priced at 15,000-20,000 VND. If there are no buyers, there will be no sellers. People with good awareness will eliminate fake and counterfeit goods on the internet," he said.

Regarding this issue, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said that e-commerce is essentially just a method of trading on the floor.

"The electronic environment has a very fast impact, reaching consumers. This is the criterion to require the floors to emphasize this. When there is information reflected, the floors must coordinate to handle and remove it immediately. In addition, it must be handled and prevented from returning, avoiding the situation of "cicada shedding its shell". Regarding KOLs and KOCs livestreaming to sell products, there are currently many regulations to handle it," said Mr. Tan.

Sharing more, Mr. Hoang Anh Duong - Deputy Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development - said that implementing the direction of the Central Government and the Prime Minister, the Department has advised the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to deploy, proactively grasp the developments of smuggling and trade of counterfeit and fake goods as well as emerging fields, inspect, monitor and handle in the e-commerce environment.

"The Prime Minister has approved the anti-counterfeiting project. In the coming time, the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development will continue to deploy and monitor the situation. Coordinate and share information with relevant agencies to promote propaganda activities and data sharing. In particular, regularly work with associations and relevant agencies to identify the origin of goods on e-commerce platforms," he said.
