The weather in many localities of Lam Dong province has a lot of rain, while the temperature is high and changes erratically, so it is very easy for animal diseases to appear.

Mr. Le Xuan Thang - Village 11, Quang Tin commune ensures that livestock barns are dry and clean during the rainy season.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, as of August 19, African swine fever had occurred in 27 villages, belonging to 15 communes, of which 5 communes with the epidemic had passed 21 days without any new cases of pigs (the threshold for the end of the epidemic). Other dangerous diseases in livestock such as blue ear, foot and mouth disease, septicemia, and avian influenza did not occur. However, the western part of the province is currently at the peak of the rainy season (around the end of July - September).

According to the veterinary agency, heavy rain lasting for many days and high humidity can easily cause various diseases. Therefore, the functional sectors and localities have strengthened measures to help people prevent and minimize the risk of disease outbreaks.

In Quang Tan commune, the locality has a relatively large herd of livestock and poultry, at 81,000 heads. However, small-scale farming here accounts for a high proportion. There are many cases where households in remote areas build simple barns, are subjective, and neglect disease prevention for livestock during the rainy season. In this area (former Dak Ngo commune), in the rainy season of 2024, lumpy skin disease also appeared in buffalo and cow herds.

According to Mr. Le Tien Lien - Vice Chairman of Quang Tan Commune People's Committee, in order to proactively prevent and control, the Commune People's Committee has strengthened the management and supervision of livestock in the area. The Commune has stepped up propaganda in many forms, guiding people on measures to cover livestock pens, store food, and requiring people to strictly comply with vaccination for livestock and poultry.

Vaccination activities for livestock must ensure that at least 70% of the total dog and cat herd is vaccinated against rabies; vaccination against foot and mouth disease must reach at least 80% of the total herd at the time of vaccination; vaccination against lumpy skin disease must reach at least 95% of the total buffalo and cattle herd. The commune's grassroots veterinary service closely monitors the epidemic situation, detects early, warns and coordinates to thoroughly handle outbreaks, preventing the disease from spreading widely.

Similarly, in Quang Tin commune, according to the leaders of the commune People's Committee, the locality strictly manages the work of increasing and restoring herds to ensure biosafety conditions for livestock farming; strictly implements regulations on declaring livestock farming activities for each household and livestock species. Accordingly, the commune currently has a herd of over 67,700 livestock and poultry. Quang Tin actively guides livestock farming establishments and households to strictly implement biosafety and disease-safety livestock farming measures and vaccinate livestock according to the instructions of specialized agencies.

According to Mr. Le Xuan Thang - House 11, Quang Tin commune, his family is raising pigs and chickens on a farm scale. With the guidance and reminders of local veterinary staff, he strictly follows the recommendations on the process of disinfecting barns and the surrounding environment with antiseptic solutions, lime powder...

The Department continues to coordinate with sectors and localities to monitor the disease situation in livestock, especially African swine fever, provide professional guidance and techniques in handling outbreaks, continue to allocate vaccines and chemicals to localities to carry out disinfection and sterilization to prevent and control diseases from arising and spreading during the rainy season and the last months of the year, ensuring the goals of sustainable livestock development.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in August, the livestock situation of the province did not fluctuate much compared to the previous month, except for the decrease in the pig herd due to African swine fever. Lam Dong 's total livestock herd is currently 1,807,543/1,957,670, reaching 92.3% of the annual plan, the total poultry and waterfowl herd is 16,733/17,212 thousand, reaching 97.2% of the annual plan.
