Stay healthy while playing sports

On summer days, sports fields, parks and multi-purpose gymnasiums are always crowded with people practicing. From new sports like pickleball to familiar ones like badminton, table tennis, etc., everyone is enthusiastic about practicing to maintain their health. However, there are many cases of injury or exhaustion due to subjectivity and lack of preparation.

Some sports medicine doctors say: Many patients are people who exercise outdoors during the hottest hours of the day. From 10am to 4pm, the body is very susceptible to dehydration, increased body temperature and can lead to heatstroke or stroke. Even when it is not directly sunny, high humidity still causes the body to quickly become exhausted.

Proper equipment is crucial. For sports that require a lot of movement, such as pickleball or badminton, specialized athletic shoes help reduce the risk of slipping and spraining. Players should also wear sweat-wicking clothing, a hat, and drink plenty of water.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Khiem (residing in Long Binh ward) regularly plays badminton 3-4 times a week, sharing: “I always spend at least 10 minutes warming up my whole body before starting a match. While playing, if I feel muscle pain or dizziness, I stop immediately to rest and drink electrolyte water. Health is long-term, you should not try too hard in one session.”

From a coaching perspective, Mr. Hoang Le Anh (residing in Tam Hiep ward), badminton coach at Anh Hieu badminton court (Tam Hiep ward), recommends: “Warming up is mandatory. You should perform joint rotation movements, jogging, and stretching before playing. After finishing, you need to stretch lightly so that your muscles can recover quickly. For beginners, you should gradually increase the intensity instead of practicing heavily right from the start.”

In addition, the importance of playing sports with the right technique is essential. Performing movements with the wrong posture can cause damage to the shoulder, wrist or knee joints. Beginners should learn carefully from a coach or experienced person to form good habits.

Not only in professional playgrounds, grassroots clubs in Dong Nai are also paying more attention to reminding members. Many places have arranged more water bottles, cooling fans and required everyone to warm up before practicing.
