These days, at the City Theater, the 2025 Autumn Melody Arts Festival is taking place with exciting academic art programs. After 20 years of organization, Autumn Melody has become the brand of the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet, Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) and is highly anticipated by the audience.

20 years of Autumn Melody

In August 2005, the Autumn Melody art program was first introduced to the audience by HBSO. The initial goal of the program was to create a new playground for domestic academic musical talents; Vietnamese talents and artists trained abroad; to act as a bridge to exchange, meet, and exchange expertise with international artists. Immediately after the first program, Autumn Melody received enthusiastic support from the audience, becoming a foundation for HBSO to maintain regular organization, gradually becoming a special cultural and entertainment meeting place, attracting a large number of city audiences and tourists to follow and wait.

In 2013, the theater upgraded the program to an Art Festival held every two years and Autumn Melody became a highlight, the only place in the country to regularly organize quality art performances, with the participation of many famous and prestigious domestic and international artists. Participating in the program, besides Vietnamese guest artists such as: People's Artist Dang Thai Son, pianist Bich Tra, violinist Chuong Vu..., there are also world- famous artists such as Professor - talented German orchestra conductor Kerstin Behnke, Norwegian choreographer Johanne Jakhelln Constant...

However, the leading role throughout the festivals is still played by talented artists of HBSO, including names such as: Tang Thanh Nam, Nguyen Phuc Hung, Nguyen Phuc Hai, Tran Nhat Minh, Pham Trang, Nguyen Manh Duy Linh, Ho Phi Diep, Tran Hoang Yen, Dam Duc Nhuan, Pham Khanh Ngoc, Dao Mac, Duyen Huyen... Together with artists of the HBSO choir and orchestra, all have contributed significantly to bring to the audience symphonic, chamber, vocal, musical, ballet, contemporary dance performances... according to the highest standards in Vietnam today.

With its achievements, in 2022, HBSO's Autumn Melodies Festival was honored as a city-level cultural and artistic event, contributing to affirming an important "cultural brand" of Ho Chi Minh City.

2025 and special highlights

The 14th Autumn Melody Arts Festival in 2025 has made a new step forward with 7 large-scale, magnificent performances, bringing to the city's audience famous symphonies of Vietnam such as: Ho Chi Minh, the most beautiful name; Aspiration; Up the mountain; My country has never been so beautiful; Radiant Vietnam; We are proud to go up, oh Vietnam; Spring of the century overture; excerpt from the ballet Red Pearl; Unknown monument (chapters II and III), Rhapsody Vietnam. In addition, the program also introduces masterpieces of world music, such as: Symphony No. 1 "Titan" in D major by Gustav Mahler, Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major by Johann Sebastian Bach, Symphony No. 9 in D minor by Ludwig van Beethoven, etc.

Speaking about the highlight of this year’s festival, musician Nguyen Manh Duy Linh said: “For the first time, the choir will perform a cappella (singing without accompaniment), helping to showcase the vocal techniques of the entire opera troupe and solo singers. Notably, this festival is also the first time HBSO has staged and performed the classic ballet Swan Lake.”

Sharing more about the ballet Swan Lake, choreographer Nguyen Phuc Hai confided: “When we decided to perform the ballet Swan Lake, we were also very worried about the staff, because the theater did not have enough actors. We invited more artists from the Ho Chi Minh City Dance College and Sasa Ballet Training Center to cooperate. This contributes to spreading the love of dance to all future dancers in particular and the public who love dance in general in Ho Chi Minh City.”

Regarding Vietnamese works, conductor - Meritorious Artist Le Ha My shared: "The festival is held on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2. We hope to take this opportunity, through the performance of works by talented musicians and composers, to honor artists who have left their mark on the history of Vietnamese instrumental music, such as: musician Tran Manh Hung, musician Hoang Cuong, musician Ca Le Thuan, Major General - Meritorious Artist - musician Duc Trinh, Associate Professor - Doctor - musician Do Hong Quan".

A notable point of the 2025 Autumn Melody Festival is that all tickets for the 7 programs are given to domestic and foreign audiences who love classical art, contributing to promoting and spreading the festival strongly, while meeting the public's increasing demand for enjoying cultural and artistic culture.
