World gold price today
World gold price increased today, with spot gold prices soaring to $3,370.3/ounce. World gold prices generally increased by 0.99% in the past 24 hours, equivalent to an increase of $33/ounce.
With the domestic gold bar price stable and the world gold price listed at Kitco at 3,370.3 USD/ounce (equivalent to about 107.8 million VND/tael converted according to Vietcombank exchange rate, excluding taxes and fees), the difference between domestic and world gold prices is about 17.6 million VND/tael.
Gold prices rebounded on Friday, supported by rising expectations of a September interest rate cut, following a speech by US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at the central bank's Jackson Hole symposium.
Spot gold rose 1.1% to $3,373.89 an ounce at 17:31 GMT on August 22 (00:31 Hanoi time on August 23), while US gold futures closed up 1.1% to $3,418.50 an ounce. The price then fell to $3,370.3 an ounce before the market closed its last trading session of the day.
The US dollar fell 1%, making gold cheaper for holders of other currencies.
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said the changing balance of risks could justify an adjustment in the Fed’s monetary policy. But he stopped short of making a clear commitment to cutting interest rates. His remarks struck a delicate balance, acknowledging rising risks to the labor market while warning of persistent inflationary pressures.
“In his eighth and final speech at Jackson Hole, Powell surprised the nervous capital markets, paving the way for a rate cut as early as September, which has boosted all assets, including gold,” said Tai Wong, an independent metals trader.
“It will be important to see whether gold can break and hold above $3,400 an ounce in the coming days,” he added.
Traders now see an 85% chance of a 25 basis point rate cut in September, up from 75% before the speech, according to the CME FedWatch tool. Powell’s remarks underscored the importance of upcoming jobs and inflation data, which will be released before the Fed’s policy meeting on Sept. 16-17.
In other news, US President Donald Trump said on Friday he would fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook if she does not resign, stepping up the president's efforts to increase his influence over the US central bank.
Physical gold demand in major Asian hubs remained subdued this week as price volatility kept buyers on edge, while Indian jewellers continued to buy ahead of a busy festive season.
