The number of Vietnamese tourists to Korea is growing impressively, with more than 500,000 arrivals in 2024, making Vietnam one of the most important and potential source markets for Korean tourism.
To exploit the potential of the Northeast Asian country's tourism market, on August 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association (HTA) organized the "Tourism and Businessmen No. 2" Seminar with the main topic "Visa Policy - The key to attracting tourists to Korea".
As part of the “Tourism & Business 2025” series, the event is expected to be a bridge to promote bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Korea. The presence and direct sharing from representatives of the Korean Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City was a special highlight that attracted more than 250 delegates from travel, hotel and transportation businesses.
Figures from the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) show that in the first half of 2025 alone, about 320,000 Vietnamese tourists entered Korea, an increase of 35% over the same period last year, proving that the attraction has not cooled down.
The seminar focused on clarifying the latest reforms and adjustments in Korea's visa policy. Updating official information is extremely necessary for Vietnamese Outbound businesses to continue to effectively exploit this rapidly increasing wave of tourists.
From a business perspective, Ms. Doan Ngoc Thao, Deputy General Director of The Swing Tourism Sports Joint Stock Company, General Secretary of the Saigon Golf Tourism Association, said that the market for international golfers coming to Vietnam has grown steadily, notably from Korea and Taiwan (China). This is a group of high-spending customers, often combining golf with high-end resorts. On average, each year, the number of visitors from these two markets increases by 10-15%, even after the pandemic there was a period of sudden increase.
Ms. Doan Ngoc Thao analyzed further: "Vietnam's expansion of visa exemptions, extension of stay periods and convenient application of e-visas have created conditions to attract more tourists, while extending the length of stay and encouraging visitors to return. If we continue to maintain and expand favorable visa policies, Vietnam can soon become the leading destination in Asia for golf tourists from Korea and Taiwan."
With the goal of welcoming more than 700,000 Vietnamese tourists by 2026, the Korean side is also considering more flexible visa policies, and this is a golden opportunity for travel businesses to seize the trend.
Understanding the “rules of the game” helps businesses proactively complete their applications, shorten processing times and increase visa approval rates. This directly enhances the competitiveness and reputation of companies in the race to gain market share from this potential market. A “smooth” visa process is the first touch point, creating a good impression and increasing satisfaction for visitors.
In addition, the flexible visa policy is also considered an effective tool in promoting tourism, sending a strong welcome message from the Korean Government, affirming the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries.
It can be said that the seminar “Visa Policy for Korea and Taiwan (China)” organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association is not simply an information session, but a practical dialogue forum, equipping businesses with the “golden key” to open the door to the potential Korean market, contributing to realizing the goal of developing inbound and outbound tourism in a harmonious and sustainable manner./.
