Pepper price today August 22, 2025: Starting to increase again

Currently, most pepper acreage in the Central Highlands and the Southeast has been harvested since the previous months. The amount of goods brought to the market is not as much as before. After selling a part to cover costs, many farmers tend to keep their goods in the expectation that pepper prices will increase further. Agents and exporters also do not have large inventories, so new supplies do not put pressure on pepper prices to decrease.

The 2025 crop in Vietnam has been quite favorable and has finished harvesting in April. The early rainy season bodes well for flowering, and the 2026 crop is expected to be positive if the weather continues to be favorable. However, prolonged hot weather threatens to reduce crop vigor and negatively impact yields.

Domestic pepper prices are high, putting great pressure on production costs. Exports continue to be an important growth driver. The price of 500-550 g/l black pepper is currently ranging from 6,240 to 6,370 USD/ton, equivalent to 6.24-6.37 USD/kg, up more than 43% compared to early 2023.

Farmers are advised to consider selling pepper immediately to benefit from high prices and holding it for another 1-2 weeks if export prospects remain positive. At the same time, cost-saving measures such as proper irrigation and effective pest management should be adopted to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.

Enterprises should sign forward export contracts at current prices to ensure profits. Expanding markets to countries other than the US and China is also a necessary solution, as some markets are imposing high import tariffs. Building cold storage through cooperation with cooperatives will help reduce post-harvest losses, stabilize supply and improve long-term export position.

Pepper price today August 22 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the prices of pepper of all types traded in the international market on August 21 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price decreased compared to yesterday at 7,151 USD/ton (down 0.31%). In addition, Muntok white pepper price decreased slightly compared to yesterday at 9,996 USD/ton (down 0.31%).

Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices were unchanged from yesterday at $5,850/tonne.

Malaysia's ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,400/ton. Meanwhile, the country's ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $12,700/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 6,240 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,370 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,950/ton.

Demand for pepper imports from major markets such as China, the US and Europe remains stable, but there are no signs of strong growth. Domestic exporters are cautiously monitoring fluctuations in exchange rates and transportation costs before deciding to sign additional contracts. This makes purchasing power not strong enough to push up pepper prices in the short term.

Pepper supplies from Brazil and Indonesia have begun to appear on the market, directly competing with Vietnamese pepper. World pepper prices are in the process of finding a direction to move. In addition, shipping costs remain high, increasing the cost burden for businesses.

Both sellers and buyers are cautious. Farmers and dealers expect pepper prices to increase when import demand recovers strongly at the end of the third quarter, so they are in no hurry to sell. Exporters are concerned about risks from unpredictable fluctuations in world pepper prices, causing the market to fall into a state of little fluctuation that has lasted for many days.
