World gold price closing date August 22, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 5:00 p.m. on August 22, Vietnam time, was 3,330.48 USD/ounce. The closing price of gold decreased by 8.76 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,550 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 106.56 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 18.84 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
World gold prices fell slightly due to the increase in the USD. The market is waiting for the speech of the Chairman of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) Jerome Powell at the annual Jackson Hole conference to find clues about the upcoming monetary policy roadmap.
Specifically, spot gold prices fell 0.26%, while US gold futures for December delivery also fell 0.4% to $3,368.80.
Analyst Giovanni Staunovo from UBS Bank said the moderate strengthening of the US dollar was the main reason for the downward correction in gold, as it made gold more expensive for foreign investors.
The dollar rose to its highest in nearly two weeks as investors reduced expectations for a rate cut by the Fed in September. Futures markets now see a 71% chance of a 25 basis point rate cut next month, down from above 90% last week. Gold typically benefits in a low-interest-rate environment.
Fed officials have been cautious about the idea of cutting interest rates next month, suggesting a tense meeting ahead, with some in favor of a sharp cut and others preferring to maintain the status quo.
The challenge for policymakers is that despite signs of labor market weakness, inflation remains above the 2% target and risks rising further due to new tax hikes. Recent labor data showed the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits rose the most in nearly three months.
Besides gold, spot silver also fell 0.4% to $38.03 an ounce. Platinum fell 0.6% to $1,343.80, while palladium edged up 0.2% to $1,112.85.
