On July 3, in Quy Nhon ward, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province held a conference to assess the socio -economic development situation in the first 6 months of the year, set out key tasks and directions for the last 6 months of 2025 and assign socio-economic development targets and tasks to 58 new communes and wards in the old Binh Dinh province.

After the merger, Gia Lai became one of the rare localities in the country with diverse terrain from highland mountains to midland plains and a long coastline, accompanied by a system of seaports, airports, national highways and regional expressways. This is a favorable foundation for the formation of comprehensive economic centers, the development of deep processing industry, logistics, high-tech agriculture and marine - cultural - ecological tourism.
With a new administrative scale of 135 communes and wards, setting targets and assigning development tasks is a necessary step for each locality to quickly "get on track" and catch up with the province's strategic orientation. Provincial leaders require each commune and ward to specify the growth management program for each industry and each field, with the spirit of "there is no time to wait".
In the first 6 months of 2025, Gia Lai recorded a GRDP growth rate of 7.49%; the industry and construction sector increased by more than 10%, services increased by 7.64%; total budget revenue exceeded 3,600 billion VND, and public investment disbursement reached over 6,400 billion VND. The indicators are all positive, but according to Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung, that is not enough.
“I am still concerned because up to now, our province still does not have any real leading enterprises, nor do we have any large projects that are dynamic to create momentum and spread. Without strategic ‘locomotives’, it is very difficult for the economy to develop sustainably,” Mr. Ho Quoc Dung emphasized.

The absence of large-scale projects has become a bottleneck that needs to be resolved quickly by being proactive, not waiting, not relying on luck. Mr. Dung shared that he and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan directly called the leaders of many large domestic corporations, proactively inviting them to Gia Lai to survey and seek investment opportunities.
“We cannot sit and wait for businesses to come to us anymore. We must proactively seek them out, inviting them with all our goodwill and determination to accompany us. That spirit needs to spread to every department, agency, ward and commune in the whole province,” Mr. Dung emphasized.
From that spirit, the Provincial Party Secretary requested that localities not only complete administrative targets, but also proactively create a favorable environment for investment, actively remove obstacles for businesses, and proactively connect, including by direct and specific methods as the provincial leaders are doing.
Currently, Gia Lai has planned and implemented many strategic infrastructure projects such as: Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway, Phu Cat airport expansion, coastal route, and key industrial zones and clusters such as Tra Da, Nhon Hoi, Nam Pleiku, Phu My... Priority areas for attracting investment include: processing industry, renewable energy, logistics, tourism, coastal urban areas and high-tech agriculture.

“Attracting investment is not only a development task but also an important political task. Each official and each locality must be an ‘ambassador’ to welcome investors. When the government accompanies, businesses will feel secure in investing, and the province will develop faster,” Secretary Ho Quoc Dung said.
Aspiration to build homeland Speaking at the conference, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized that the workload in the last 6 months of the year is very large, requiring the entire political system to act together with the spirit of "no retreat, only action", "no excuses, only results". Each cadre must have a spirit of dedication, nurture the desire to contribute, and consider the development of the locality as their own mission. To achieve the 2025 growth target of 8%, the Chairman of Gia Lai province requested sectors and localities to focus on removing obstacles, unblocking resources, reviewing all stalled projects, and proposing breakthroughs in each area of responsibility. At the same time, it is necessary to prepare conditions to start and inaugurate major projects on the occasion of National Day, September 2, creating a strong competitive atmosphere for development throughout the province. |
