High technology application in pig breeding in Thai Nguyen
According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, Thai Nguyen is implementing a model of applying technology in breeding breeding pigs and commercial pigs crossbred from sows VCN15 (Landrace), VCN16 (Yorkshire) with Duroc boars.
In the context of the livestock industry being under great pressure from epidemics, increasing production costs, along with the market's increasing demand for quality and safe products, the application of science and technology in livestock farming is an inevitable direction.
In Thai Nguyen, the project "Application of scientific and technological advances to build a model of breeding breeding pigs and commercial pigs crossbred from VCN15 (Landrace), VCN16 (Yorkshire) sows with Duroc boars" chaired by the Thai Nguyen Provincial Center for Plant Breeding, Livestock and Aquaculture has brought about practical results.
The project uses two high-yield sow breeds, VCN15 (Landrace) and VCN16 (Yorkshire), to create parent sow lines PS1 and PS2 with outstanding characteristics of fertility, ease of raising, and good adaptability. The parent sows are mated with Duroc boars - a prominent pig breed with advantages in terms of weight gain rate, good feed conversion ability, especially delicious meat quality, high lean meat ratio.
From this crossbreeding, the F1 hybrids obtained are commercial pigs with beautiful appearance, large skeleton, fast weight gain, high resistance, suitable for raising conditions in mountainous and midland areas such as Thai Nguyen.
