• Elderly people in Ca Mau City promote the spirit of "Old age - Bright example"
  • Old age is a bright mirror

Ms. Lan understands that in order to help and set an example for members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club, she herself needs to develop a stable economy and unite family members. She and her husband started to renovate the mixed garden and cultivated land to create a source of income. Each year, Ms. Lan's family grows 2 crops of rice and shrimp, and after deducting all expenses, they still have 80 million VND. In addition, she also raises chickens and ducks, bringing in about 30 million VND.

Ms. Lan shared: “We have to set an example for our sisters to trust us. Therefore, my husband and I try to develop our economy so that our life is stable and comfortable. I have three daughters who all have stable jobs and happy families. The third daughter lives next door, takes care of her parents, creating a harmonious, happy intergenerational family, with proper respect for elders and juniors.”

Ms. Dang Thi Lan (left cover) regularly holds meetings with members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club, participates in cultural activities and exchanges useful economic models.

Thanks to good support from her family and not being afraid of difficulties in doing business, Ms. Lan has gained the trust of the Club members. Ms. Lan also demonstrated her role and sense of responsibility as the Club President, actively campaigning to establish an Intergenerational Self-Help Club with 57 members, maintaining regular monthly activities. Although there are many difficulties in rural areas, she initially mobilized 73 million VND for the Club. As the Club President, Ms. Lan always cares about members in difficult circumstances. Every year, she considers lending capital to 20 members for production. In addition, she also mobilizes nearly 100 working days each year for members in difficult circumstances, actively contributing to promoting the role of caring for the elderly in the locality.

Currently, the members of the Intergenerational Club in Hamlet 5 all have stable finances. This has created momentum for the women to happily participate in local cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities with a relaxed mindset.

In addition to raising shrimp and poultry, Ms. Dang Thi Lan also grows sugarcane as raw material for her daughter who sells sugarcane juice in front of her house.

Ms. Ngo Thi Le, a club member, said: “I feel that joining the club helps us to get capital to help each other. Ms. Lan helps us to raise ducks. Later, when we sell the ducks and make a profit, we can raise more ducks. In recent years, my life has been better, I have the conditions to take care of my family, my children are harmonious and have a proper education.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Dung, Deputy Head of the Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly in Ca Mau province, after 5 years, Ms. Dang Thi Lan was awarded a certificate of merit by the Central Association of the Elderly for her achievements in leading, operating, managing, and organizing regular activities of the Club. This result contributed to the local association of the elderly in performing well the two tasks of promoting and caring for the elderly.

With this improvement and the trust and encouragement from the club members and all levels and sectors, Ms. Lan is even more eager to have more health to devote to her work. Ms. Lan said: “I feel happy that I can help the sisters like this. The other day when I attended the congress in the province, I heard that there would be some capital, I hope to have that capital, to lend to the sisters to do more business. I hope that the club will develop even more in the future.”
