Coffee prices suddenly increase after a series of consecutive declines

Domestic and world coffee prices have rebounded strongly, however, many experts believe that the upcoming coffee price is difficult to predict. The reason is the supply and demand situation and the impact from the security and political situation.

According to information from many gardeners and traders in the Central Highlands region on the afternoon of June 24, the price of green coffee beans traded has increased by about 2,500 - 3,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

Specifically, in Lam Dong province, many areas are trading at the same price of 98,500 - 99,500 VND/kg. In Dak Lak and Dak Nong , coffee is being purchased at the price of 99,500 - 100,500 VND/kg.

In Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces, coffee prices are trading at 98,900 VND/kg, while Pleiku and La Grai are holding at 98,500 - 100,000 VND/kg.

Thus, after many consecutive sessions of decline with a total decrease of about 25,000 VND/kg compared to the good level of the previous month, the domestic price of green coffee beans has turned to increase.

Although still far from the previous peak of VND135,000/kg, the fact that coffee prices have stopped falling and are turning up is positive news for many domestic farmers and businesses.

Similarly, after many consecutive declines, coffee prices traded on the two exchanges London and New York increased sharply compared to the previous trading session.

Specifically, at the end of the trading session last night, early this morning, June 24 (Vietnam time), Robusta prices on the London - UK exchange increased from 99 - 176 USD/ton; Arabica prices on the New York - US exchange increased from 200 - 250 USD/ton.

Accordingly, the price of Robusta for July 2025 delivery increased by 99 USD (equivalent to 2.55%) to 3,986 USD/ton; the delivery term for September 2025 increased by 167 USD (equivalent to 4.47%) to 3,904 USD/ton. The price of Arabica for September 2025 delivery increased to 720 USD/ton, an increase of 250 USD/ton.

According to experts, the sudden increase in coffee prices after many consecutive declines was due to the impact of many factors from supply and demand, speculation, and financial investment. In particular, the unpredictable fluctuations from the recent world political situation also had a significant impact.

"Although coffee prices have turned up, they are unlikely to stabilize. Further price developments are also difficult to predict because, in addition to seasonal factors and export volume from Brazil, the current world political and security situation has a significant impact on trading activities, transportation, and prices of commodities," said a representative of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association.
