The movie “F1” is one of the most worth-watching “blockbusters” of the summer, even 2025. This is the common opinion of many audiences and critics, especially with the participation of A-list star Brad Pitt in the lead role and 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton as co-producer.
The film will premiere globally from June 27, with early screenings in Vietnam from the evening of June 25-26.
“F1” follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a rising Formula One racing star in the 1990s who suffered a serious accident. His career was ruined, Sonny fell into gambling, had many failed marriages, and his name was associated with scandal for decades.

When he is on the other side of the slope, Sonny is unexpectedly given the opportunity to return to the top racing track by Ruben (Javier Bardem). He becomes the rival of his young teammate Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), causing controversy with his reckless but surprisingly effective decisions. From here, Sonny's complex inner world opens up, along with the competitive, tense but also exciting world of F1.
Sonny Hayes' accident was inspired by the real-life case of Martin Donnelly, a racer who had an accident in the 1990s and had to retire from racing and become a coach. Some of the footage in the film is real footage from his accident.
At 61, Brad Pitt is stylish and confident in his role. The actor successfully portrayed the calm, tough and even crazy side of a man who had fallen from the top. He shared that he is a fan of speed and felt deeply connected to the character Sonny Hayes when he sat behind the wheel.

“F1” is a film about “an underdog’s journey” or how a loser rebuilds his life, bringing empathy through pain, humiliation and outstanding efforts to prove himself.
Director Joseph Kosinski (who directed " Top Gun: Maverick" ) shared that he wanted to connect the rough reality of this high-speed sport with the emotional storytelling of a Hollywood summer blockbuster.
To recreate the atmosphere and authenticity, “F1” was filmed live on the real track, during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Audiences at the stadium can directly see the filming set. The racing cars in the film are all real F2 cars that Mercedes has modified to look like modern F1 racing cars.
Each car is equipped with 15 cameras to recreate the feeling of high speed and familiar angles to fans, using camera technology from Apple - the film's co-producer.

In the film, Brad Pitt and Damson Idris drive F3 and F2 cars themselves, performing many racing scenes, some reaching speeds of 290km/h. With Lewis Hamilton as producer and technical advisor, the action scenes were adjusted to recreate the realistic physics of F1 racing, among other factors.
In addition to Kosinski, Pitt and Bardem, "F1" also features Oscar-nominated actor Kerry Condon, screenwriter Ehren Kruger ( Transformer, Top Gun: Maverick ), talented composer Hans Zimmer... in the production team.
Current top F1 racers such as Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso also appeared, along with other big names such as Toto Wolff (Mercedes team captain), Guenther Steiner (former senior manager of Red Bull team), Frédéric Vasseur (team captain of Scuderia Ferrari team)...

As of June 29, the film received an 83% fresh tomato score from 239 reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes; 7.9 points from more than 24,000 reviews on IMDb. The film received both positive and negative reviews. Most of the negative reviews said that the film followed a familiar pattern, was overshadowed by drama or the climax was pushed too far compared to the reality of F1 sport ...
On the contrary, positive reviews praised the overall feeling the film brought. “ 'F1' is a perfect example of a summer blockbuster, with excitement, romance, humor, glamour and pure entertainment,” said Nell Minow of Roger Ebert, who gave it a B+.
Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune commented that the film was skillfully staged, conveying many of the previous sports films about team spirit through "cinematic acceleration, sound and coordination" - this writer commented. In terms of expertise, ESPN quoted Carlos Sainz (4-time world champion) as saying: "For true F1 fans, be open to a Hollywood movie"./.
