Bringing Vietnam-Laos relations to increasingly stronger and more effective development

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam will continue to provide maximum support within its capacity to help Laos successfully assume the responsibility of ASEAN Chair in 2024.

On the afternoon of November 22, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith, who is visiting Vietnam to co-chair the 10th Foreign Ministers' Political Consultation.

At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Comrade Saleumxay Kommasith and the delegation of the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs to visit Vietnam and hold a Political Consultation at the Foreign Minister level, and believed that the results of the visit would contribute positively to consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly congratulated Laos on its important achievements in maintaining socio-political stability and national defense and security, economic recovery and development; and affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and gives the highest priority to the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, and will continue to support Laos in building an independent and self-reliant economy with a high-quality workforce; emphasizing the need to increase connectivity between the two economies and work together to share development guidelines for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to receive the delegation. The Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and senior Lao leaders to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior Vietnamese leaders.

Expressing his delight at the increasingly strong and effective development of the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith sincerely thanked Vietnam for its sincere friendship and valuable, selfless support and assistance to Laos during the past struggle for independence, as well as in the current cause of national defense and construction.

The two sides highly appreciated the strong development of cooperation in all fields between the two countries. Political relations are increasingly close and trustworthy. Other key areas of cooperation such as defense, security, economy, culture, education and training and cooperation between Vietnamese and Lao localities have all been promoted and have new developments.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested relevant ministries and sectors of the two countries to urgently review cooperation areas; coordinate to resolve difficulties in key cooperation projects; and strive to bring bilateral cooperation to a new page, developing more strongly and effectively.

The Prime Minister also stressed that the two sides need to continue to closely coordinate to effectively implement high-level delegation exchanges and important cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, including the 46th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee; closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums; and affirm that Vietnam will continue to provide maximum support within its capacity for Laos to successfully assume the responsibility of ASEAN Chair in 2024.

Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith fully agreed with the contents of the discussion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; informed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of the results of the 10th Foreign Ministers' Political Consultation and affirmed that the two countries will continue to cooperate and coordinate closely on regional and international issues.
