Low benchmark scores in technical blocks or majors with low score distribution
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that this year, the admission scores of most majors and schools will decrease due to the decrease in the minimum admission score. However, it is predicted that the decrease will only occur in majors that have had moderately high admission scores in recent years. Specifically, majors with admission scores in the 23-26 point range. The reason is that the number of candidates with 3-subject scores of 23-26 points this year is not as high as last year.
"At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry alone, this year the minimum score is 17-19 points, down about 1 point compared to last year. Therefore, the standard score for the school's majors is expected to decrease by about 1 point depending on the major," said Dr. Nhan.
According to the schedule of the Ministry of Education and Training, by 5:00 p.m. on August 22 at the latest, candidates will know the official benchmark scores of the schools.

At the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), this year's floor score decreased by 2 points compared to last year, to 19 points, so the school predicts that the standard score may decrease by about 0.5-1.5 points compared to 2024. The reason is because the school uses two main admission subjects, including math and English. These are all subjects with difficult exams and low score ranges.
Dr. Vo Van Tuan, Vice Principal of Van Lang University, also stated that the admission scores for some majors of the school will decrease compared to last year. Compared to the minimum admission score, Dr. Tuan predicted that the admission scores for engineering and technology majors will be equal to the minimum admission score, about 15 points.
According to Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), this year the score distribution of subject groups A, B, D has decreased sharply, so if candidates apply to majors/schools with previous year's admission scores higher than this year's exam scores, they have a chance of passing.
Dr. Khang said that the school's benchmark scores for majors in 2025 will likely decrease compared to 2024, expected to fluctuate between 1-2.5 points depending on the major.
According to Dr. Tran Huu Duy, Vice Principal of Dalat University, majors such as data science , mathematics (mathematics-computer science), physics, chemistry, nuclear engineering, biotechnology, food technology, Vietnamese studies, sociology, business administration, finance and banking..., candidates with scores between 16-20 are expected to have a high chance of being admitted.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology also predicts that the benchmark scores for the school's majors will fluctuate between 15 and 20. For health majors, the minimum score set by the Ministry of Education and Training will decrease compared to 2024, so it is predicted that the benchmark scores for this major at the school will also decrease.
"Hot" industries remain the same or increase slightly
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Permanent Deputy Director of Duy Tan University, said that the level of competition among candidates in university admissions this year is still very high. "For 'hot' majors such as artificial intelligence, health care, etc., the benchmark scores may remain unchanged. For majors that were below 27 last year, the benchmark scores this year may decrease, but it is not impossible that some majors' benchmark scores will suddenly increase," Dr. Hai predicted.
According to Dr. Nhan, for the "hot" majors that have a benchmark score of over 26 in previous years, this year is likely to be the same and not decrease. At the same time, majors that have a benchmark score of under 23 in previous years are expected to be stable as in 2024 and not decrease, because the number of candidates achieving scores at these levels this year remains stable, even increasing.
"Although the expected benchmark score is reduced, the information technology group is still an extremely attractive major and the number of candidates applying to the University of Information Technology is always very high. Therefore, the competition will still be very fierce and the benchmark scores of 'hot' majors may decrease less," Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang assessed.
At Dalat University, Dr. Tran Huu Duy said that the physics education, chemistry education, biology education and history education majors will have higher admission scores than the other majors of the school, with a predicted possibility of over 20 points.
Majors such as multimedia communications, public relations, graphic design, marketing, and information technology at Van Lang University are also assessed by Dr. Vo Van Tuan to have standard scores 2-4 points higher than the floor score.
Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that "hot" majors at the school such as international business, e-commerce, international economics, marketing, and economic law are of interest to many candidates, so they have a high level of competition and the admission score will be higher than other majors.
As for Saigon International University, the school representative said that the admission scores for majors such as multimedia communications, public relations, logistics & supply chain management, information technology, economic law or business administration may remain the same as in 2024 and not decrease, because candidates often register more than other majors.
