Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc provinces focus on developing high-tech livestock farming, following a closed, safe chain. The goal is to increase competitive advantage not only in the domestic market but also to meet export market standards.

The largest herd in the country

Dong Nai is known as the "capital" of livestock farming in the country, in which the two main livestock are pigs and chickens. Currently, Dong Nai's total pig herd is more than 2 million; the total poultry herd is nearly 24.6 million. In the first 5 months of 2025, the total output of fresh meat for slaughter in the province was nearly 91.3 million tons. Total egg output was more than 496 million eggs.

In recent years, Binh Phuoc province has strongly developed its livestock herd, becoming one of the provinces with the highest livestock herd in the country. The province's total pig herd is nearly 2.1 million; the total poultry herd is nearly 11.3 million; poultry egg production is nearly 132.5 million. In addition, Binh Phuoc province has a large herd of buffalo and cows with nearly 54.7 thousand heads.

Thus, only counting the two main livestock with large herds, pigs and chickens, after the merger, the total herd of pigs in Dong Nai province has reached more than 4.1 million; the total herd of poultry has reached 35.9 million. While the total herd of pigs nationwide has reached 31.8 million, the total herd of poultry has reached 584.4 million, Dong Nai province (new) is in the top of the country in terms of total herd of pigs and poultry.

The livestock industry of Dong Nai province is currently transforming strongly by promoting the application of science and technology, transforming from small-scale livestock farming to large-scale industrial production.

According to Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association Nguyen Kim Doan, the livestock industry is currently having many favorable conditions for development when livestock products, especially pork, are at good prices. Meanwhile, the price of animal feed has decreased and stabilized, creating opportunities for livestock farmers to invest in development. Livestock farming in Dong Nai province is developing towards large-scale farms with about 90% of the total herd raised on a farm scale. All farms apply automation technology in livestock farming; have waste treatment systems that meet standards.

Deputy Director of Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Environment Tran Lam Sinh said that the livestock industry accounts for the highest proportion in the province's agricultural production value, at over 61.8%. In the Project on Developing the Slaughter Industry, Processing and Market for Livestock Products by 2030, Dong Nai aims to focus on attracting investment in the livestock product processing sector with scale, technology and management on par with the region and the world.

Attracting investment in processing

The common strength of the two provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc is attracting many large enterprises and corporations to invest in developing high-tech livestock farming, following a closed chain from farming to distribution.

Dong Nai has the advantage of attracting investment in processing livestock products for domestic and export markets. Many large corporations and enterprises have invested in large-scale livestock product processing factories that meet export standards to many countries.

Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. (Bien Hoa city) is a pioneer enterprise investing in a closed chain of livestock farming to slaughtering and processing chicken meat for export to the Japanese market.

General Director of Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. Tran Nhon Hieu said that the company slaughters and processes about 1 million chickens/month. Of which, the export output is mainly processed products, accounting for 20-25% of the total production output, equivalent to 300-350 tons/month; the rest is consumed in the domestic market. The company is increasingly diversifying its processed products, currently the processed products the company supplies to the export market are about 40 types. In addition to the Japanese market, the company is planning to expand the export market of chicken products to Hong Kong and European countries. Accordingly, the company is implementing a plan to build more slaughter and processing factories in Dong Nai, continuing to expand the production scale.

Dong Nai is also the country’s animal feed processing center as the province has attracted many large foreign corporations to invest in this field. Up to now, the whole province has about 40 animal feed factories, reaching a total designed capacity of over 3 million tons of products/year. Many factories are currently applying world-class animal feed production technology, not only supplying the domestic market, but also promoting export activities.

Binh Phuoc province, with its advantages of large land fund, abundant human resources, and gradually completed infrastructure, is also a locality attracting investment in the agricultural sector. In particular, many large corporations and enterprises in the livestock sector choose to invest in this land with great potential.

A typical example is the project of the complex of livestock and chicken meat processing factories for export invested in Becamex Binh Phuoc Industrial Park (Binh Phuoc). This is a closed-chain food processing factory for chicken meat products with a capacity of 170 thousand tons of products/year for export, the most modern in Southeast Asia. Binh Phuoc province also attracted Japfa Coomfeed Vietnam Company to invest in an animal feed processing factory with a capacity of 420 thousand tons/year, a pig and chicken slaughterhouse and a livestock and poultry meat processing factory with a capacity of 2 thousand tons of products/year.
