Actor of the movie 'Southern Land' lives alone in a 15 m² rented room, selling goods online to make a living

Phung Ngoc once made an impression with the role of "the Stork" who went through two failed marriages, lived alone in a 15 m² rented room, and sold goods online to make a living.

On July 14, actor Phung Ngoc - once famous for his role as "the Stork" in Dat Phuong Nam - suddenly announced that he had broken up with his second wife, Lam Thi Chi, after nearly a year of living together.

He said the two met through social media and got married in May 2024, but quickly had conflicts. After the wedding, the couple moved to the Central Highlands to live. However, differences in personality and lifestyle made it impossible for them to find common ground.

“We only had a wedding ceremony, did not register our marriage and did not have children. Living together, we realized there were too many things we could not reconcile, so we had to let go,” Phung Ngoc shared.

After the breakup, Phung Ngoc moved to Ho Chi Minh City to live alone in a small rented room, while his ex-wife returned to her parents' house. The actor confided that in recent days, he often felt empty: "I lay alone in the room, looking around and seeing only four walls, clothes and furniture. Suddenly I felt so confused that I thought I was going crazy."

This is his second broken marriage. Before that, Phung Ngoc had been with his first wife from Quang Tri for more than 10 years. They broke up in 2014, also due to differences in opinions and economic pressures.

Phung Ngoc's current life is still full of difficulties. He rents a room in an industrial park in Ho Chi Minh City and makes a living by selling dried foods, mainly dried stingray. Previously, he cooperated with a food company in Gia Lai , now he has split off to work on his own with a younger brother.

“Starting a business is never easy. Sometimes it is very tiring. When the pressure is too great, I just go out for a walk to clear my mind,” he shared.

No longer appearing on screen, Phung Ngoc said he has almost no connection with the art world. He mainly livestreams on social networks to sell products, thanks to the support of the audience who still love the "Stork" of the past.

In 2023, when appearing at the premiere of the film Dat rung phuong nam, Phung Ngoc was expected to return to the screen. However, he frankly admitted that he was no longer confident enough to pursue acting: “I am fatter, older and no longer have the right body shape. Everything has changed.”

However, the actor still tries to maintain his passion by writing scripts and filming short acting videos to post on social networks. However, without a supporting crew, he only films himself with his phone, so the products are still rudimentary and the income is insignificant.

During the most difficult period, Phung Ngoc was visited by his former co-star Hung Thuan - who played "little An" in Dat Phuong Nam - in October 2023. At that time, he was working as a security guard with an income of about 7 million VND/month. After deducting the cost of renting a room, the remaining amount was nothing. He even had to sell his motorbike to pay off his debt during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Feeling sorry for his old friend's situation, Hung Thuan invited him to work for the same company, supporting sales via livestream and even giving him all the commission from the first broadcast to help him make ends meet. However, after a short time of cooperation, Phung Ngoc went to the Central Highlands to find a new opportunity. That was also the time when he met his second wife - a marriage that ended quickly after only one year.

Phung Ngoc was born in 1984, from Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Binh Duong). After making a splash with his role as “the Stork” in Dat Phuong Nam, he acted in a few more films but failed to make an impression. After the spotlight, he wandered around, doing all kinds of jobs to make a living: looking after rubber plantations, driving a motorbike taxi, barbering, selling clothes on the sidewalk.

A bumpy love life, an unfinished career, and a life of deprivation have caused Phung Ngoc to fall into a deadlock many times. However, he still maintains his optimism: “ As long as I am alive, there is still hope. Perhaps, I was born to go through many bumpy roads. But who knows, maybe there is still a smooth road ahead for me .”
