Xiaomi phones will soon have a feature to detect hidden cameras

According to Huawei Central, Xiaomi will launch a hidden camera detection feature in the HyperOS 2.0 update, along with other digital security features. According to a video recently published by Xiaomi on YouTube, this feature was tested on the HyperOS Security app, using the MIX FOLD 4.

This feature is based on some smart algorithms and WLAN service that helps to detect camera signals in a particular area. As soon as the feature detects any abnormal signal emitted by the camera, it alerts the user about it.

This new feature is quite similar to an online tool called “Ingram”. It is unclear whether Xiaomi will release this important feature with HyperOS 2.0 for all devices or limit it to high-end models.

WLAN stands for Wireless Local Area Network, which allows devices like smartphones, computers, and smart appliances to connect to each other and the internet over a wireless connection. Xiaomi's update allows their phones to detect hidden cameras by scanning for WLAN signals that the camera may emit. Many hidden cameras rely on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to transmit data, so phones can identify devices that are connected to the same network or scan for nearby wireless connections.

This detection method works well for cameras that rely on wireless technology, since your phone can pick up the signal from them. However, it may not work for all cameras.

For example, cameras that do not use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, such as those that store on a local memory card or use a wired connection, will not emit a detectable signal over WLAN. Additionally, some advanced cameras may disguise their signal or use frequencies that phones may not easily pick up.

HyperOS 2.0 is expected to not only improve the performance or UI aspects of the device but also add better security tools and robust privacy control services.

The company is expected to unveil the above features along with the Xiaomi 15 series in the coming days.
