Leading farmers to make clean coffee
From a cooperative with a modest charter capital of 49 million VND in 2012, up to now, Cong Bang Thuan An Cooperative has become a typical model for the dynamism, creativity and efficiency of agricultural cooperatives in the new era.
Since its establishment, Cong Bang Thuan An Cooperative has clearly defined the direction of developing organic, high-quality coffee, associated with international standards such as RA (Rainforest Alliance), FLO-Fair Trade. From technical support, providing microbial fertilizers to linking output for farmers, the Cooperative has played an important role in changing production thinking and increasing the value of local agricultural products.
Currently, the cooperative has 114 members, cultivating nearly 300 hectares of coffee that meet international standards. Of which, 125 hectares of coffee are cultivated according to Fairtrade standards and over 172 hectares are cultivated according to Rainforest Alliance (RA) standards. The Dak Dam branded ground coffee product has achieved 4-star OCOP at the provincial level, recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment as a typical agricultural product. The cooperative's coffee growing area is recognized as a high-tech production area. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Tri, a member of the cooperative, said that thanks to technical support from the cooperative, her family has effectively renovated the coffee garden, with a more stable income. Each year, she harvests 13-15 tons of coffee beans. The cooperative also buys coffee at a price 1,200 VND/kg higher than the market price. In addition, she and many other households also received non-refundable microbial fertilizers, helping to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, contributing to environmental protection and improving product quality.
Over the past 3 years, the cooperative has spent about 1 billion VND to support members with microbial fertilizers and harvest ripe coffee, an important factor in ensuring the quality of output products. Training programs on techniques, labor safety, and coffee tree care are also held regularly.
The results of innovation and creativity
Cong Bang Thuan An Cooperative does not only stop at production but also proactively invests in deep processing, improving the product value chain. The Cooperative invested about 7 billion VND to build 3 coffee processing factories to help control quality and diversify products, from green coffee to ground coffee, serving the domestic and export markets. On average, in the past 5 years, the Cooperative has maintained a revenue of about 33 billion VND per year.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Ha, Director of the Cooperative, shared: “We always organize emulation movements for excellent production, encourage creativity and innovation in coffee care and cultivation. Outstanding members will be able to visit and learn from effective models at home and abroad”. This innovation has helped the Cooperative continuously receive noble titles. In 2020 and 2021, the Cooperative was awarded the Emulation Flag by the People's Committee of Dak Nong province for the leading unit in the emulation movement. In 2024 and 2025, the Cooperative was honored to be among 100 units nationwide to be awarded the "Cooperative Star" award by the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance.
Not only developing the economy, Cong Bang Thuan An Cooperative also actively contributes to community activities. Billions of VND have been invested in the 3-phase electricity system, rural transportation, schools, kitchens, medical stations, and charity houses in Thuan An commune. The Cooperative also supports tens of millions of VND each year for disadvantaged families and gives gifts on holidays and Tet. This is clear evidence that the cooperative model is not only for the benefit of its members but also for the community.
The story of Cong Bang Thuan An Cooperative is a vivid demonstration of the pivotal role of cooperatives in building modern, sustainable and integrated agriculture.
