On the morning of August 9, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Hoang Xuan Tan, said that the province has just submitted a report proposing plans and investment portfolios for building schools for border communes.
The province plans to build 10 new schools and upgrade and renovate 6 existing schools, ensuring that each border commune has a boarding or semi-boarding school with standard facilities.
According to the plan, Huong Phung Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities will start construction in 2025 and be completed before August 30, 2026. The remaining schools will be completed before August 30, 2027.
The school in Huong Phung commune is expected to have 60 classes and 2,100 students, mobilizing all students from 4 schools in the area.
The minimum area of the new school is 95,000m2 , including 60 classrooms, 18 subject classrooms, library, administrative area, kitchen, dormitory for students, official house for teachers, playground, practice ground, swimming pool, mini soccer field, multi-purpose house... Total investment is 335 billion VND.
The total area of 16 schools under this plan is over 876,242m2 , with 686 classrooms, serving about 21,435 students, with a total investment of about 3,338 billion VND.

According to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, after the province's merger, the whole province has 16 border communes with 57 general schools, including 17 semi-boarding ethnic minority general schools and 1 ethnic minority boarding school (junior high school level). Most of the border schools are in mountainous areas with particularly difficult socio -economic conditions, many ethnic minorities, sparse population, and low education level.
Most schools have many campuses, lacking subject classrooms, auxiliary blocks, playgrounds, sports areas, public housing, and teaching equipment.
Investing in building boarding schools and semi-boarding schools at primary and secondary levels in border communes aims to ensure equal rights to education, improve the quality of education, narrow regional gaps, and create favorable conditions for teachers to stay long-term, retain students at school, and develop local human resources.
