The Hanoi National University Aptitude Test (HSA) consists of two compulsory parts with 100 questions, one part for candidates to choose between Science and English.

On August 9, the Hanoi National University Examination Center announced sample test questions for the 2025 HSA exam to help candidates review conveniently.

HSA 2025 structure and reference questions

In addition to downloading the soft copy of the exam, candidates can access the Testing Center's website to take the exam on a computer from September 1.

Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the center, said that the reference test questions, like the official test questions, are not arranged from easy to difficult but are randomly shuffled according to a fixed matrix.

"Candidates can take sample tests to get used to the test format, review and supplement knowledge and skills, and practice time management while taking the test," said Mr. Thao.

The 2025 HSA exam structure consists of three parts, of which two are compulsory: Mathematics and Data Processing, Literature - Language, similar to the present.

The Mathematics and Data Processing section consists of 50 questions to be completed in 75 minutes (35 multiple-choice questions, 15 fill-in-the-blank questions). The content is in the fields of algebra and some elements of analysis, geometry and measurement, statistics and probability.

The Literature - Language section consists of 50 multiple choice questions, to be completed in 60 minutes. The questions use materials related to many areas of life such as literature, language (vocabulary, grammar, communication activities, language development and language variations, writing), culture, society, history, geography, art...

In addition, candidates have the choice of Science or English. For the Science section, candidates can choose 3 out of 5 topics: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography. Each topic has 17 questions (including one test question).

The English option consists of 50 multiple choice questions designed for admission to foreign language training programs.

Mr. Thao said that the HSA exam questions are about 75% objective multiple choice with 4 options and 25% fill-in-the-blank type.

From 2025, the test bank will add cluster questions in all test sections and test topics. Cluster questions include general questions and specific questions to develop and assess candidates' abilities from low to high levels.

"The cluster questions will exploit rich data sources, assessing students' thinking in each field and across fields," said Mr. Thao.

The test score is calculated based on the total number of correct answers, no points are deducted for incorrect answers. In the official test, the score will appear after the candidate finishes the test.

The Hanoi National University Aptitude Test is one of the two largest private exams in the country. About 90 universities use this test score for admission.
