To keep electricity from making summer hotter

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Hot is the feeling of many people in the past few days. In addition to the heat of the weather, there is also the "heat" created by electricity consumption. According to information from the Northern Power Corporation, on June 2, the electricity consumption capacity in 27 provinces and cities in the Northern region (from Ha Tinh and above) reached 17,400 MW, exceeding the highest peak of 2024.

To keep electricity from making summer hotter

This number is entirely possible to repeat, even exceed when the coming days are forecast to continue to increase temperatures.

The heat of electricity raises many questions: If electricity consumption continues to increase, will the electricity infrastructure be able to meet the demand? The risk of equipment explosions and power supply interruptions that threaten production and life on a large scale is entirely possible.

While the power supply cannot meet demand, the answer to transmission safety and energy security remains two words: savings.

Two years ago, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee made a controversial but completely justified decision to require its affiliated units to promote electricity saving and ensure safe and stable electricity supply in the city, including limiting the wearing of vests and formal clothes by officials when working or attending meetings.

The fact that civil servants wear suits on hot days, which consumes more electricity, can be considered just a way of saying. The higher issue here is to recommend that electricity users change their awareness of using electricity in a more economical way. In reality, there is a large proportion of office workers using electrical equipment at full capacity, while during off-peak hours when the temperature is not too hot, electrical equipment does not necessarily have to operate at maximum capacity. Because of wearing suits and being older, because of the natural fear of power shortages, many people have treated this particularly important source of energy very insensitively. Turn on and turn on. When entering a room, it is turned on, but when leaving the room, it is not necessarily turned off. Electrical equipment is turned on at any time without any care, as long as it can cool the fastest and when it is cool, there is no need to worry about returning the capacity to a maintained state.

Up to now, despite great efforts to build power plants and use wind and solar power sources, domestic electricity output still cannot meet domestic consumption demand. Every year we have to import billions of kilowatts of electricity, a source of funds that can be completely used for investment if we save electricity.

Recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Official Dispatch No. 81/CD-TTg on the situation and solutions to ensure electricity supply in the peak months of 2025 and the coming time, requesting ministries, departments, branches, People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities and related corporations and enterprises to focus highly, continue to resolutely, synchronously and effectively implement solutions in directives, plans and official dispatches on electricity supply and operation of the national power system in 2025 in the spirit of 6 clear principles: "clear people, clear work, clear responsibility, clear authority, clear time, clear results" according to the direction of the Prime Minister, as a basis to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business and people's lives, ensuring that there is no shortage of electricity in any case. Some key and urgent tasks were specifically directed by the Prime Minister such as: best preparation for power generation in peak months; put some thermal power plants into operation soon; speed up the progress of 500kV power line projects; replace lighting with energy-saving lamps, apply automatic control technology; remove difficulties in site clearance, connection, investment in power sources and grids...

Everyone must realize that this is an order, for the future of the country and the benefit of each person. Turning off one electrical device when not in use reduces the consumption of one kW of electricity, and the heat of this summer will no longer be so hot.
