On September 4, Bach Mai Hospital announced that it had successfully implemented the technique of removing CO2 through the extracorporeal membrane for two patients with very serious lung diseases, opening up much hope for patients who unfortunately suffer from serious illnesses.

The two patients included a 76-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) complicated by pneumothorax, and a 40-year-old male patient with severe pneumonia complicated by ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome).

Both patients had pneumothorax, which made it difficult to set up a ventilator, so doctors had to apply the technique of removing CO 2 through an extracorporeal membrane filter. With this technique, the increased CO 2 in the blood is easily controlled, doctors can adjust the ventilator parameters more easily, reduce ventilator support and help the lungs rest.
