Folk dance enriches the spiritual life of the community

In recent years, folk dance sports have become increasingly popular, attracting the participation of many people of all ages, not only helping to improve health but also creating joy and strengthening solidarity in the community.

As one of the earliest folk dance clubs in Son La city, since 2018, Nguyen Vu Shuffle Dance Club has gathered 50 sisters of different ages with the same interest in the art sport , practicing regularly in the morning or afternoon every day. Ms. Nguyen Vu Hoai, Club Manager, shared: The club is divided into basic and advanced groups to practice and participate in performances, connecting members of many generations. The club won a silver medal at the 2024 National Shuffle Dance, Dance and Folk Dance Sports Competition; A prize at the first Son La Province Dance and Folk Dance Festival in 2024.

Originating from the mass art troupe of Dong Hung village, Muoi Noi commune, Thuan Chau, the dance group "The Starfruit Tree Sisters" also caught up with the trend of folk dance movement, staging many fun, vibrant and impressive folk dance performances. Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh Chi, Group Leader, informed: The dance group has 11 members who are women aged 34 - 41 years old. Along with cultural activities with national identity, the group regularly practices new songs, invests in staging with meaningful content, scripts and themes, positive messages, bringing joy to everyone.

The folk dance and sports movement is increasingly developing widely from the city to the villages, attracting many participants regardless of age. Clubs and dance groups are established on a voluntary basis. Folk dance and sports also become a part of the activities of mass art troupes, helping to diversify cultural and artistic activities at the grassroots level.

At the end of 2024, the first Son La Province Dance and Folk Dance Festival was successfully held with the participation of 46 clubs and more than 600 contestants from 8 districts and cities in the province. The teams brought to the festival outstanding performances, demonstrating careful training, elaborate and creative staging; investment in costumes, beautiful and impressive images.

Mr. Pham Hong Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism , said: Dancing and folk dancing are fun, collective and community-oriented arts that both improve health and bring joy, develop physical strength, create a useful playground for everyone, of all ages, contribute to improving people's spiritual life, and consolidate and build the great national unity bloc.
