Accordingly, the 10th National Sports Festival is expected to take place in November 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City (main venue), Dong Nai and Dong Thap. According to the approved decision, the competition program has 47 sports . Of which, the Olympic group (22 sports): Athletics (including Ba Ra mountain cross-country), aquatic sports (swimming, diving), gymnastics, rowing (Rowing, Canoeing/Kayak, Sailing, traditional boat), football (11-a-side football for men and women; men's futsal), wrestling (freestyle wrestling, classical wrestling, beach wrestling), shooting, archery, weightlifting, judo, taekwondo, boxing, fencing, badminton, tennis, volleyball (indoor, beach), basketball (5x5, 3x3), handball (indoor, beach), cycling (road, terrain), table tennis, golf, triathlon (triathlon).
The Asiad group of sports includes 7 sports: Karate, wushu, sepak takraw, kurash, jujitsu, roller and E-sport. Meanwhile, the SEA Games and ethnic sports group (12 sports regularly included in the competition program of the SEA Games and 6 ethnic sports that are strongly developed in many localities) includes: Pencak silat, bodybuilding, muay, petanque, kickboxing, bowling, chess (chess, Chinese chess, Go), Billiards & Snooker, sports dance, Vovinam, diving, traditional martial arts, shuttlecock kicking, stick pushing, tug of war, pickleball and Lion and Dragon.
Through the organization of the 2026 National Sports Festival, the sports industry will have the opportunity to comprehensively assess the quality of the sports movement nationwide; promptly detect and plan to train and foster athletes ready to compete at the 2027 SEA Games, 2028 Olympics, and 2030 Asiad.
The National Sports Festival is not only a gathering place for the most elite athletes representing provinces, centrally-run cities, the military and police, but also a major political, cultural and social event that has a profound influence on the entire population.
Through the Congress, the sports industry will comprehensively evaluate the quality of mass sports movements and high achievements nationwide, and at the same time discover new talents for systematic training, serving further goals such as SEA Games 34 (2027), Olympics 2028 and ASIAD 2030.
The Congress also aims to raise social awareness of the role of sports in physical development, building healthy human resources, and being closely associated with the country's development.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Nam Nhan said: Organizing in Ho Chi Minh City - a smart, modern and friendly urban area, together with Dong Nai and Dong Thap - dynamic localities, not only contributes to promoting the local image but also helps to utilize and promote the existing infrastructure system.
The host units are responsible for proactively preparing competition conditions according to the principles of economy and efficiency, avoiding scattered and wasteful investment. Propaganda activities before and during the Games will be associated with traditional education, promoting patriotism and solidarity, especially among youth, pupils and students.
With a professional approach, systematic organization and promotion of Olympic competitions, the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026 is expected to be a strong boost for the strategy of developing high-performance sports, gradually affirming the position of Vietnamese sports on the international map.
