On the morning of July 30, in Rach Gia ward, An Giang Provincial People's Committee coordinated with the Institute of Monuments Conservation - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize an international scientific workshop "Consultation on outstanding global values and criteria for nominating World Heritage for Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site (An Giang province, Vietnam)".
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed that the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site is a complex of religious architectural relics with a dense concentration of unique archaeological relics in the South.

"Archaeological traces have outlined the appearance of a large religious center and the very unique cultural life of the ancient urban residents of Oc Eo in history," said Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong.
Mr. Le Trung Ho - Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the International Scientific Conference, said that one of the key tasks of An Giang province at present is to strive to complete the nomination dossier for the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site for UNESCO to recognize as a World Cultural Heritage by 2027.

“Preserving and promoting the value of the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site is not only a responsibility to the past, but also a practical action for the present and the future. We are committed to working closely with professional agencies, international organizations, and scientists to build a solid, authentic, and convincing scientific profile to bring the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site closer to the title of heritage, contributing to the common cultural treasure of humanity,” Mr. Le Trung Ho emphasized.
At the Workshop, managers, scientists and experts clarified and focused on assessing the completeness of existing documents, supplementing newly updated research results as a scientific basis for the development of a nomination dossier for the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site, An Giang Province to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a World Cultural Heritage.
Oc Eo culture is an ancient culture formed and developed in the Southern region of Vietnam.
Clearly identifying the “Outstanding Universal Value” and honoring the historical, cultural and scientific values of the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site, An Giang province submitted to UNESCO for recognition as a world cultural heritage as a basis for preserving and promoting values associated with sustainable economic and tourism development in the locality.
Oc Eo culture is an ancient culture formed and developed in the Southern region of Vietnam, from the 1st to the 7th century AD; named in 1944 by French scholar - Louis Malleret. His name was given to an archaeological site first excavated by Louis Malleret in the field east of Ba The mountain.

Excavated artifacts show a unique Oc Eo culture.
This is a major culture in the history of Vietnam, closely associated with the country and people in the lower Mekong Delta and closely related to the ancient history of Southeast Asia. The typical relic site has outstanding global value, integrity and authenticity, and is eligible to be submitted for World Cultural Heritage.
On September 27, 2012, the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological and architectural relic was ranked as a special national relic. On January 23, 2021, the Prime Minister approved the Plan for preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the Oc Eo - Ba The special national relic.
Clearly identifying Outstanding Universal Value and honoring historical and cultural values is the basis for conservation.
On January 4, 2022, the World Heritage Center included the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site, An Giang Province - Vietnam in the Tentative List for the World Cultural Heritage Profile. To date, phase 1 of the profile has been completed.
Currently, An Giang province is focusing on phase 2, striving to submit the draft nomination dossier before September 30, 2025; before February 1, 2026, the official nomination dossier will be sent to the World Heritage Center; striving for UNESCO to recognize it as a World Cultural Heritage in 2027.
