Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has just sent a document to the Prime Minister, requesting consideration of including Quy Nhon University in Program 1017 on human resource development for the semiconductor industry.
Associate Professor Dr. Doan Duc Tung - Rector of Quy Nhon University (left) and Mr. Nguyen An Thao - Founder and CEO of TORmem Company (USA), have just signed a cooperation agreement to develop the semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence.
This is considered a strategic step to contribute to building a center for training, research and transfer of semiconductor technology for the South Central and Central Highlands regions, while meeting the demand for high-quality human resources for the country's digital transformation and industrialization process.
Pursuant to Decision No. 1017/QD-TTg dated September 21, 2024 of the Prime Minister approving the Program on human resource development for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050, together with the Strategy for development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry (Decision No. 1018/QD-TTg), Gia Lai province has developed a specific plan for implementation.
Accordingly, Gia Lai province aims to train over 2,100 microchip and semiconductor design engineers, 380 practical engineers, and organize short-term training courses for about 2,500 students by 2030.
To achieve this goal, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee believes that investing in building a shared basic semiconductor laboratory at Quy Nhon University is a key solution.
This facility not only serves to train high-quality human resources in the field of microchips and semiconductors, but also creates conditions for scientific research activities, technology transfer and cooperation with domestic and foreign enterprises to be strongly promoted.
At the same time, this is also a fulcrum to strengthen regional connectivity, forming a training - research - production ecosystem in the semiconductor field in the South Central and Central Highlands regions.
According to the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, Quy Nhon University is a key public higher education institution under the Ministry of Education and Training, with strengths in technical and technological training and experience in the fields of microchips and semiconductors.
Being included in Program 1017 will open up opportunities for the school to promote its core role in training and supplying human resources for this key industry.
Therefore, Gia Lai province proposed that the Government approve the policy of including Quy Nhon University in the list of priority projects for investment in grassroots semiconductor laboratories.
Quy Nhon University has strengths in training in engineering and technology and has experience in the field of microchips and semiconductors.
At the same time, the Prime Minister is requested to direct the Ministry of Finance to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training, and relevant ministries and branches, to appraise and submit the project to competent authorities for approval; prioritize the allocation of public investment capital for the 2025-2027 period for implementation.
Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee affirmed that it will closely coordinate with central ministries, branches and Quy Nhon University to prepare for investment, mobilize legal resources, ensure infrastructure, human resources and coordination mechanism for implementation. Contribute to effectively implementing the goal of developing human resources for the national semiconductor industry according to the direction of the Government.
