Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 Air next month, aiming to replace the Plus line. Not only will it attract attention thanks to its super-thin appearance, this model could also recall the iPhone 4 if the company really revives the case that made its mark more than a decade ago.
According to many sources, the iPhone 17 Air will be the new model to replace the previous Plus line, with the biggest advantage being its impressive thinness. To highlight this feature, Apple is said to have tested a case inspired by the iPhone 4.
This unique case was introduced by Apple to solve the problem of users accidentally covering the antenna on the iPhone 4. Unlike traditional cases, it only covers the edge of the device, revealing the entire back, both protecting the edges and maintaining a slim, light design.
If it returns on the iPhone 17 Air, this type of accessory could partly fix the problem of making the phone thicker when using a regular case. However, some experts say this also goes against Apple's main goal of creating an ultra-thin smartphone to bring a pure design experience.
Currently, Apple has not confirmed that it will launch this case. However, the fact that there is a prototype shows that the company will likely introduce it with the iPhone 17 Air. In fact, many users still miss the design of the iPhone 4 case and are looking forward to a similar version for modern iPhone lines.
Many configuration challenges
In addition to the focus on appearance, the iPhone 17 Air is also facing many doubts about its performance and practicality. It is predicted that the device will have a price similar to the iPhone 17 Pro, but there are many limitations.
Apple is said to only equip the iPhone 17 Air with a 2,900 mAh battery, significantly lower than the 3,900 mAh battery on its rival Galaxy S25 Edge. In addition, the product will only have a single rear camera, making it difficult for it to compete in terms of photography capabilities - which is an important factor for many users today.
Question about durability
With its ultra-thin design, one of the biggest concerns is the durability of the iPhone 17 Air. The “Bendgate” issue that haunted Apple many years ago is still a lesson in the past. Whether the iPhone 4-inspired case is enough to protect the iPhone 17 Air from these risks remains to be seen.
However, the combination of a slim, lightweight design, retro style, and the ability to differentiate from the Pro line could make the iPhone 17 Air an attractive choice for customers who prioritize beauty and iconicity over powerful configuration.
