Da Nang narrows the educational gap between disadvantaged and advantaged areas

GD&TĐ - On August 27, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City held a summary of the tasks of the 2024-2025 school year and the key directions and tasks of the 2025-2026 school year.

School size development

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Education sector of the old Da Nang City and Quang Nam Province achieved outstanding results. The network scale developed strongly, the whole city had 481 kindergartens and preschools (296 public, 185 non-public), more than 1,500 independent facilities, mobilizing 154,000 children to go to school, reaching a rate of 83.9%.

The rate of preschool children attending school reached 95.8%, in which Da Nang (old) stood out with its model of accepting children under 18 months. Localities promptly implemented many resolutions and policies to support children and teachers, especially in industrial parks and disadvantaged areas, with a total implementation cost of more than 67.7 billion VND.

Regarding infrastructure investment, Da Nang invested nearly 300 billion VND to renovate and upgrade schools. Old Quang Nam built 7 new schools and 3 school locations with nearly 100 billion VND. 31 schools were recognized as meeting national standards during the school year.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee, gave a speech at the conference.

The entire education sector (formerly Da Nang city and Quang Nam province) continues to effectively implement emulation movements; promote the application of information technology in management and teaching activities; strengthen solutions to reduce the rate of weak students and dropouts, increase the rate of good and excellent students; focus on the selection, training and coaching of excellent and gifted students.

Thanks to that, the quality of education in all fields and levels is maintained; excellent students at the city and national levels continue to achieve good results. In competitions such as the National Excellent Student Competition for Grade 12 High School and National Scientific and Technical Research, the quality and number of awards have increased compared to last year.

At the National Youth Informatics Competition, all 24 students from the old Da Nang city won prizes; one student from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted won the only first prize in the 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition at the national level and was selected to represent Vietnam in the international competition in Switzerland.

The conference recorded many opinions on groups of issues related to school organization, policies for students and teachers, coordination mechanisms when implementing the two-level government model...

From the results of national competitions for excellent students and gifted students, students from the former Da Nang city and Quang Nam province were selected by the Ministry of Education and Training to be part of the team representing Vietnam to participate internationally and achieved many proud achievements: 2 students won second prize. at the International Science and Technology Competition in the United States; 3 students won Gold Medals at the Second International Mathematical Olympiad; 1 student won Bronze Medal at the European Physics Olympiad; 1 Gold Medal and 1 Bronze Medal at the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad; 1 Silver Medal and 4 Bronze Medals at the 25th International Mathematics Competition - VIMC 2025.

Fully prepare for the opening ceremony

In the 2025-2026 school year, the city's education sector will continue to innovate and improve the quality of education; ensure fairness in access to quality education for learners; develop a team of teachers and educational institution managers to meet the requirements of education and training innovation; improve the efficiency of state budget use, mobilize investment resources to strengthen facilities and improve the quality of education and training...

Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training, emphasized: "Localities need to pay attention to education work and closely coordinate with the industry in organizing the implementation of tasks for the new school year. Schools should proactively develop plans suitable to actual conditions, focusing on storm and flood prevention plans and ensuring safety for students. Preparations for the opening ceremony must be carried out in accordance with instructions, in good coordination with parents, while ensuring solemnity and meaning."

Attending the conference to summarize the 2024-2025 school year and the key directions and tasks for the 2025-2026 school year with the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City requested that in the coming time, the entire industry thoroughly grasp the viewpoint of "education is the top national policy", closely follow the resolutions of the Central Committee, review and develop policies suitable to the characteristics of Da Nang.

In particular, it is necessary to identify key tasks including: Improving the quality of mass and spearhead education; increasing investment in facilities; promoting digital transformation, implementing STEM and AI programs; paying attention to the regime, promptly issuing preferential policies for teachers in remote and isolated areas; urgently recruiting staff, not allowing contracts to be extended. At the same time, the whole sector must fully prepare conditions for opening schools, inspecting actual facilities, especially in mountainous areas, and focusing on implementing school investment projects in difficult areas.

According to Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, the education and training sector needs to soon advise on increasing investment in infrastructure, implementing school projects in disadvantaged areas as well as preferential policies for teachers in remote areas; urgently recruiting staff, not allowing contracts to be extended.
