Once had a grave dug by teammates

Mr. Doan Trong Tuoc was born on February 5, 1938 in Phu Dong commune, Ba Vi district, Hanoi. On February 10, 1965, following the call of the Party and Uncle Ho, Mr. Tuoc volunteered to join the army. After a period of arduous training, he and his teammates walked from North to South, crossed the Truong Son mountain range and arrived in Phuoc Long (now Binh Phuoc province) in August 1965. He was assigned to Military Region 6.

"Recalling the memory of 1965 when we volunteered together to join the army to join the liberation of the South, at that time I was 27 years old, full of enthusiasm, hoping to contribute to the war of national liberation.

At that time, we only had patriotism, participating in months of arduous training to prepare mentally and physically for the trip across Truong Son. Our soldiers at that time only had 'bronze legs, iron shoulders and steel will'. I hope that through your videos, the younger generation will have more patriotism" , Mr. Tuoc shared.

His comrades had prepared a grave for him, but thanks to luck and extraordinary determination, he overcame the crisis and continued his journey with his gun.

He told of his battlefield meals, which often consisted of only root vegetables and vegetables he had picked himself, and sometimes he went a whole month without a grain of salt. But the hardship did not discourage him and his comrades; they always maintained their fighting spirit, aiming for the final victory. During his 10 years of participating in the resistance war, Mr. Tuoc was wounded many times and suffered from severe malaria.

With great pride, the 87-year-old veteran showed off the badges he received when participating in major campaigns such as Mau Than 1968, the badge of bravery in destroying the Americans, the first, second, third class medals, the glorious soldier medal...
