Short film competition 'creates a source' for Vietnamese directors to go to Cannes, Berlin

The CJ 2024 short film project has just launched season 4 with a total prize of up to 1.5 billion VND.

After 4 years of organization, the project has become a place to nurture and create opportunities for talented young directors to have their first, second... short films in their careers.

From there, some people moved on to make feature films and brought achievements to Vietnamese cinema at international film festivals.

Short films nurture the future of Vietnamese cinema

Initiated in 2018, the CJ Short Film Project has been nurturing and nurturing many young talents of Vietnamese cinema.

Most recently, director Pham Ngoc Lan - a contestant from season 1 - won the Best First Feature Film award at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival with Coolie Never Cries .

Director Pham Thien An won the Camera D'Or award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival with his debut feature film Inside the Golden Cocoon (developed from the short film Be Awake and Be Ready - top 5 CJ Short Film Project season 1).

Short films completed within the project have been selected for screening and won awards at more than 50 prestigious film festivals around the world such as Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Busan...

The short film Be Awake and Be Ready by director Pham Thien An (season 1) won an award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

The short film A Good Land by director Pham Ngoc Lan (season 1) competed for the Golden Bear at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival.

The short film Cloudy but not Rain by directors Vu Minh Nghia and Pham Hoang Minh Thy (season 2) was selected into the Top 12 of the Orizzonti Short category at the 2020 Venice Film Festival.

The short film "Gi cung sua" by director Le Lam Vien (season 2) won the Best Director award at the Singapore Film Festival in 2022...

Golden moment - Shining passion

CJ 2024 short film project with the theme Golden Moment - Shining Passion, accepts registration from April 15 to May 31.

The contest seeks the 5 best projects to be awarded a film funding package of up to 1.5 billion VND (300 million VND per project), supporting the submission of completed short films to prestigious international film festivals.

In season 5, the program continues to accompany the judging panel including: director Phan Dang Di, producer Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, director Ham Tran, director Trinh Dinh Le Minh and director Tran Thanh Huy.

The program is coordinated by the Department of Cinema and the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). Attending the project announcement event were Ms. Ly Phuong Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Cinema and Mr. Tran Nhat Hoang - Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Mr. Ko Jae Soo - General Director of CJ CGV Vietnam.
