Dolores Boppel, 84, a resident of North Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida, was walking her dog when she encountered an alligator on the evening of September 5. Boppel threw her dog away as soon as the alligator started charging at her, according to Fox News on September 9.
Boppel told WBBH she was bitten on the leg and finger before she punched the alligator in the face, causing it to retreat. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office shared body camera footage of the aftermath of the attack.

"She was out here walking her dog and she said the alligator was coming full speed towards her. She threw the dog away and saved her dog," a witness recounted in the footage.
In the footage, Ms Boppel appears cheerful and fully conscious as medical professionals attend to her.
Boppel told WBBH that she was walking around a pond when she suddenly felt uneasy. "It was like a torpedo," Boppel said of the alligator. "I've never seen anything happen so fast in my life," she continued.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) identified the creature as an alligator measuring more than 7 feet (2.1 m) long.
"FWC, the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Lee County Emergency Services all responded to the scene and a trapper captured the alligator. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries," FWC said.

The FWC added that Florida alligators rarely cause serious injury to humans and encouraged Floridians to take certain steps to avoid contact with alligators, such as keeping pets away from water and only swimming in designated areas during the day.
