A travel company in Hanoi was accused of abandoning an injured trainee tour guide on Ta Chi Nhu mountain, Yen Bai .

The whistleblower, Nguyen Trung Anh, living in Hanoi , trekked Ta Chi Nhu mountain at the end of September. On the way down the mountain on the afternoon of September 24, Trung Anh met Nguyen Huu Hung, a trainee guide of Vietnam Adventure company, with a sprained ankle at a location about an hour away from the resting place at an altitude of 2,400 m. Hung accompanied a group of 30 people trekking Ta Chi Nhu of Vietnam Adventure from September 22 to September 24. Hung's group leader at that time led the 30 people back to the departure point to ensure the schedule.

Trung Anh said he gave his walking stick to Hung and helped him move. When he saw that Hung's condition was getting worse, Trung Anh called the tour leader of Vietnam Adventure to ask for a porter (a person who carries luggage for the climbing group), but was told "let Hung go down by himself".

Trung Anh said that from the meeting point with Hung to the gathering point, it would take 3-4 hours if going fast, and 4-6 hours if going slow. However, after 9 hours, around 10-11pm, the two of them reached the foot of the mountain.

Trung Anh was upset by the act of "abandoning the employees of Vietnam Adventure Company". Hung also said that through phone calls, the group leader only "asked about the situation, did not offer support plans".

Mr. Dang Xuan Hoa, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Adventure, said that he was aware of the incident and was working to resolve it. He admitted that they had not supported their employees well, and that "some aspects were still rigid", such as supporting expenses for accommodation and travel.

"We do not deny our shortcomings. If I were Hung, I think I would also feel sorry," said Mr. Hoa.

Mr. Hoa said he was grateful to Trung Anh for supporting the company staff, but he believed the tour leader did not intend to abandon the tour guide. He "tried to contact Hung but could not", possibly because his phone ran out of battery or lost signal. When Trung Anh and Hung arrived at the meeting point, the company called a motorbike taxi to wait for support.

Ta Chi Nhu peak is 2,979 m above sea level and is known as the roof of Yen Bai province, ranking 7th in the 10 highest mountains in Vietnam. Trekking Ta Chi Nhu is one of the tours favored by adventurous mountaineers.
