According to the provincial police, in recent days, information with photos has appeared on a number of social networking sites claiming that Nguyen Thanh Kien died in a work accident in Cambodia. The posts also included a bank account number to solicit donations and support for the family to bring the victim's body back to Vietnam for burial.
To create trust, these contents were posted with a picture of a woman crying and holding a portrait of her son, along with a request to confirm difficult circumstances, said to be confirmed by the People's Committee of Ham Kiem commune (Ham Thuan Nam district).
False information posted on social media
However, through verification on the population database system, Binh Thuan Provincial Police determined that there is no citizen named Nguyen Thanh Kien, Nguyen Ngoc Hieu or Bui Thi Dinh as posted information. The application confirming difficult circumstances is also a fake document.
Fake confirmation form
Police believe this is a scam by cyber criminals, taking advantage of people's compassion to steal property. Many social media users said they were moved and transferred money after seeing this information.
Binh Thuan Provincial Police warned people to be vigilant and cautious against fraudulent charity solicitations on social networks.
