Job opportunities in the Journalism industry after streamlining the apparatus

Báo Đại Đoàn KếtBáo Đại Đoàn Kết18/03/2025

The fact that press agencies are merging, consolidating, and streamlining their apparatus according to Resolution 18-NQ/TW makes many 12th grade students who love Journalism and Multimedia Communications confused about choosing a major and school.

Journalism and communication are among the majors with the highest admission scores in the country. In the past few admission seasons, the admission scores of Journalism and communication majors have skyrocketed. Many candidates who scored 9 points in each subject still do not have a ticket to this major.

For example, in the 2024 admission season, the Journalism major of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) had the highest standard score with 29.03 points for block C00. Slightly lower, the Journalism major of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) also took up to 28.8 points for block C00.

The entrance score is high, meanwhile, implementing Resolution 18-NQ/TW of the Central Executive Committee, many localities have arranged and merged press agencies in a streamlined manner. This makes many 12th grade students who love Journalism and Multimedia Communications confused about choosing a major and choosing a school.

Loving the job related to content creation, Trinh Minh Chau, a 12th grade student at Nguyen Hue High School ( Hanoi ) plans to choose Journalism and Multimedia Communications. However, in the context of press agencies merging and streamlining their apparatus, Chau expressed concern that it will be difficult to find the desired job after graduation.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Luong, whose child is a 12th grader at Le Quy Don High School in Dong Da (Hanoi), also believes that in the next 4-5 years, the chances of her children finding a job at a press agency after graduation will be extremely difficult. Therefore, Ms. Luong and her child are wondering whether to choose this major or not.

In response to concerns from students and parents, universities training in Journalism and Multimedia Communications believe that the merger and streamlining of press agencies will have impacts on the labor market, but basically not much.

Dr. Nguyen Phi Long - Head of Training Department of Vietnam Women's Academy said that this year, the school plans to enroll 1,885 students for 12 training majors with 6 admission methods. Compared to last year, the school opened a new major, Marketing.

Among the school's 12 training programs, Multimedia Communications is one of the hot majors, attracting a large number of candidates to register for admission every year.

Commenting on the popularity of the Journalism and Communications industry, Dr. Nguyen Phi Long said that with this major, students can freely pursue their passion and creativity with an open training program. In fact, students studying this major can find jobs that match their abilities and strengths even before graduating.

According to Mr. Long, studying Journalism and Multimedia Communications and later working in the field of journalism is just a standard output field of the industry. In the digital age, the field of multimedia communications is in all aspects of social life, so job opportunities are very wide, not just limited to the field of Journalism, so candidates who love this field can rest assured about job opportunities.

Dr. Vu Thi Thanh Nhan - Head of Multimedia Communication Department, Thang Long University, commented that the merger of press agencies and the dissolution of some press units have a significant impact on journalism training in general.

The school's Multimedia Communications major trains in an applied direction and does not focus on quantity. Each year, the school trains 120-180 quotas with 25 students/class. Students will be trained in 3 main directions: Knowing how to take photos, design, and film from basic to advanced. From there, students graduate equipped with enough skills to meet the requirements of employers.

In the current context, Ms. Nhan noted that candidates who love this field of study should be confident and adaptable. In reality, in the recruitment process, many students choose their majors based on trends and the majority.

Therefore, Ms. Nhan also noted: “The Journalism and Multimedia Communication industry is very interesting but also full of hardship. Students need to know what they love and where their abilities are before deciding on a major and a school.”
