This morning, July 18, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong officially presented the Decision to appoint Mr. Gregory John Norman (Greg Norman), known as the "white shark" of the world golf village, as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador for the 2025-2030 term.
The event is not only a cultural diplomacy , but also a step of the whole industry in the strategy of positioning Vietnam's image as an international-class golf and green tourism destination.
Special marks in the role of ambassador
Greg Norman (Australian nationality), a living legend of the world golf village with 331 weeks at No. 1 in the professional golf rankings. He is also a shrewd businessman, a famous golf course designer with more than 100 projects around the world, from the US, Dubai to Vietnam.
The “White Shark” of the world golf village has accompanied Vietnam tourism since 2018 as Tourism Ambassador. During his first term (2018-2021), he made a strong impression by contributing to turning Vietnam from a “rookie” into “Asia’s Best Golf Destination” 8 consecutive times, and “World’s Best Golf Destination” 2 times (2019, 2021) voted by the World Golf Awards (a prestigious international award in the golf field, part of the World Travel Award system).
Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai, said that in his role as the first-term Vietnam Tourism Ambassador, Mr. Greg Norman coordinated with the former Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (now the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism) to participate in many activities to promote and advertise Vietnam tourism.

He represents the image of the Golf section of the Vietnam.travel website; becomes a Storyteller through experiences, moments, emotions about landscapes, cuisine and interesting places when traveling in Vietnam through famtrips, sharing with international friends on personal social networking sites (Instagram and Facebook have a large number of followers); makes clips promoting Vietnam tourism with the message "A great destination to experience golf;" is a person who connects and inspires the domestic community, motivating Vietnamese people to become "tourism ambassadors" in their own community.
Thanks to his global influence and extensive network, Greg Norman has provided consulting and connection support for international events in Vietnam, such as bringing the International Series Vietnam tournament of the Asian Tour system to KN Cam Ranh Links golf course, where he is the main design architect.
He also participated in promoting Vietnam on international media channels such as CNN, CNBC, Golf Channel, Golf Digest..., contributing to positioning Vietnam as an emerging golf destination in the region and globally. The videos promoting Vietnamese golf produced by him were widely broadcast, helping to spread the image of the country, people and tourism of Vietnam to the world.
With such special marks, Greg Norman's reappointment is not simply a recognition of his contributions in his first term but also a continuation of the "golf diplomacy" strategy - a form of soft connection between Vietnam and the international community through sports, culture and tourism.

The new plan of the "white shark"
“I am proud to continue to be associated with Vietnam as Tourism Ambassador for the 2025-2030 term. I pledge to do my best to continue promoting the image of Vietnam, not only a destination for golfers but also a country of heritage, nature, culture and friendly people, to further spread the image of Vietnamese tourism globally,” Mr. Greg Norman emphasized at the “inauguration” ceremony this morning.
Tourism Ambassador Greg Norman said that in the coming term, he will continue to promote Vietnam golf tourism on personal media platforms, aiming to raise international awareness of Vietnam's golf destinations; connect and organize top international golf tournaments in Vietnam; advise on developing policies for sustainable golf course management and development, combining environmental protection and green tourism development, and propose a program for inspecting and ranking international standard golf courses.
In addition, Mr. Greg Norman plans to connect golf tourism with heritage tourism through events such as Heritage Golf Festival in Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang; continue to coordinate and participate in activities to promote Vietnam tourism in general and golf tourism in particular at tourism-cultural programs and events taking place in the US and Australia; promote golf diplomacy, cultural, sports and economic bridges...
Leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expect that the reappointment of Mr. Greg Norman as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador will promote and advertise tourism, while continuing to build “golf diplomacy” - a form of soft connection between Vietnam and the international business, sports and tourism community; spreading the message that Vietnam is an ideal destination for the world tourism industry in general and the golf community in particular.

This is also part of the national tourism promotion strategy, especially when Vietnam aims to not only attract a large number of tourists but also extend their stay, attracting high-end customers with high spending ability./.
Mr. Greg Norman, born in 1955, Australian nationality, will perform the duties of Vietnam Tourism Ambassador for a period of 5 years, from 2025-2030. In addition to promoting golf tourism, he will actively participate in activities to promote Vietnam's heritage, cuisine, culture and other unique tourism products to the international community.
In addition to Mr. Norman, Vietnam has appointed tourism ambassadors in previous terms including: American director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, actress Ly Nha Ky, Ms. Anoa Suzanne Dussol Perran (French of Vietnamese origin) and Mr. Ly Xuong Can (Korean).
