On July 11, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan worked with the People's Committee of Da Nang city on the planning and development plan for Da Nang international airport and Chu Lai airport.
According to Mr. Tuan, Da Nang airport is oriented to welcome 30 million passengers by 2050. Chu Lai airport is oriented to be more open. Therefore, when merging, it is necessary to review the general development plan.
In which consider economic sectors, pillars of the city such as free trade zones, international financial centers, tourism development.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the aviation sector must develop in parallel with tourism. At the same time, he recognized that if tourism does not develop, aviation will also be affected. Therefore, it is necessary to study so that Da Nang airport can operate effectively, so that passengers coming here feel comfortable because of the connectivity from the airport to tourist areas.

At the meeting, Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) proposed a plan to expand and increase the capacity of Da Nang Terminals T1 and T2. Applying technology to increase the capacity of the cargo terminal.
ACV proposed funding to hire a foreign consulting unit to comprehensively evaluate both airports based on the common goals of the new Da Nang city, ensuring local development conditions until 2050.
According to Mr. Le Quang Nam - Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee, the planning of the two airports is different. Da Nang airport in particular has been deployed very early, so some areas are no longer suitable and need to be adjusted, so the expansion of terminals T1 and T2 is reasonable.
According to Mr. Nam, the city's view is to still prioritize international visitors to Da Nang airport. But in the long run, Da Nang airport will not be able to handle it, and will be redirected to Chu Lai airport.
According to Mr. Nam, the "role assignment" will be easier when the two provinces and cities are now one. Therefore, the locality will review and make proposals to implement the planning project. At the same time, the traffic system connecting the two airports will be studied.
