Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has just announced the list of candidates submitting copies of international certificates used in university admissions in 2025.

According to the list updated at 12:00 on July 4, 671 candidates have submitted copies of their international certificates to the school. This list was compiled by the school based on two criteria: IELTS certificate and SAT score. However, most candidates with SAT scores eligible for admission to the school also have IELTS certificates, only a few cases have SAT scores but no IELTS score.

The school accepts IELTS certificates from 6.0 and above, with most candidates achieving scores of 6.0-7.0. Notably, nearly 50 candidates have IELTS certificates from 8.0 and above, many of whom have scores of 8.5 or above.

International certificates converted into bonus points in admission

According to the announcement of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, candidates with international certificates will be awarded extra points according to the school's regulations applicable to all training majors. This year, the school will use the results of international certificates converted into extra points in the admission process.

However, the school notes that bonus points will only be calculated when the candidate has submitted a certified copy of the international English certificate (IELTS/TOEFL iBT), SAT results as prescribed and meets the requirements for the bonus point threshold. The information on the international certificate must completely match the information related to the candidate. The school will not resolve cases of information discrepancies.

Candidates submit certified copies of IELTS/TOEFL IBT English certificates directly or by express delivery, preferred by post to the school. For SAT certificates, candidates submit directly to the University Training Department. On the day of application submission, candidates provide login information to the student's account on College Board for the school to check. International certificates are valid from June 30, 2023 to July 18, 2025.

IELTS certificate issuing units include: British Council (BC); International Development Program (IDP). TOEFL IBT certificate issuing unit: Educational Testing Service (ETS).

Certificates submitted by post (express delivery, priority), candidates must send early and ensure the school receives before 5:00 pm on July 18. Submit directly to the school from 8:00 am on June 30 to before 5:00 pm on July 18. Thus, after less than a week of receiving, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has received nearly 700 international certificates submitted by candidates.

Meanwhile, by 2024, by the end of the term, the school will have received over 1,200 international language certificates.

International certificate points addition formula

This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy enrolls students using four methods, including combining high school graduation exam results with international certificates for admission.

The threshold for bonus points is IELTS Academic 6.0 or higher, TOEFL iBT 80 or higher. Candidates have an international SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) certificate of 1,340 points or higher.

Admission score = total score of 3 exam subjects (a) + priority points (b) + bonus points (c) (calculated on a 30-point scale).

• (a) = exam scores of math + biology + chemistry/math + physics + chemistry/math + biology + literature/math + biology + English;
• (b) = priority points by region, subject;
• (c) = bonus points for international certificates are rounded to two decimal places before being added to the admission score.

International English certificate (choose only 1 of 2): ELTS bonus points = 0.9 x IELTS score/9; TOEFL iBT bonus points = 0.9 x TOEFL iBT score/120. International SAT certificate, bonus points are calculated as follows: SAT = 0.9 x SAT score/1,600.

Thus, according to this formula, it can be seen that the bonus points of candidates applying to Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in this method depend on the international certificate scores they achieve. For example, candidates who score 6.0 IELTS will have a bonus point of 0.6 points; candidates who score 9.0 IELTS will have an additional 0.9 points.
