Studying in the same class and having different personalities, Long is active and enthusiastic while Hieu is somewhat shy and quiet. However, the academic achievements of these two male students are admirable, having won many excellent student awards at the provincial and city levels. In the 2024-2025 school year alone, Long won second prize at the city level and third prize at the provincial level in Physics; Hieu won first prize at the city level and third prize at the provincial level in Mathematics.
Notably, in the recent entrance exam, Long and Hieu simultaneously passed the entrance exams to the three specialized high schools mentioned above with very impressive scores. Nguyen Viet Long took the entrance exam for the Physics major: passed Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted with a total score of 42.75 points (Second Prize in Physics); Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted with a total score of 44.75 points; and Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted with a total score of 37.35 points. Nguyen Minh Hieu took the entrance exam for the Mathematics major: passed Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted with a total score of 42.25 points; Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted with a total score of 39.5 points; and Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted with a total score of 34.9 points.
Long said that he took the entrance exam to specialized schools with 3 compulsory general subjects: Math, Literature, English and the specialized subject is Physics. The total score is calculated by adding the 3 general subjects and the specialized subject multiplied by 2. "In my opinion, this year the general and specialized subjects of Le Quy Don and Vo Nguyen Giap schools were relatively easy, so I scored over 40 points at these schools. The exam at Quoc Hoc Hue was difficult, especially the specialized subject, so the average score for this subject this year was low. However, I am also very happy because my specialized Physics score ranked 6th in the whole school," Long happily said.
Meanwhile, Hieu took the entrance exam for the Math major, which included 3 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature, English and the specialized subject was Math. With careful review, Hieu also passed the entrance exam to 3 specialized schools with quite high scores. “At school, I had teachers to guide me, and at home, I took the time to study on my own, referring to previous years' exam questions from the schools. Therefore, when I took the exam, I was not too surprised and did well, achieving a fairly high total score. The happiest thing was that I passed all 3 specialized schools that I wanted to study at,” Hieu shared.
After a period of consideration, and with the guidance and support of their parents and teachers, Long and Hieu said they decided to study at Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted. According to them, this choice will help them study in a quality learning environment, famous for its high academic achievements that many excellent students want to study at.
Sharing more about his plans, Long said that in the near future, he will focus on studying Physics and strive to be on the team for excellent students at the provincial and national levels. Regarding his dream, Long said that he has registered for the ASEAN scholarship (a full scholarship of the Singapore Government for high school students from Southeast Asian countries) in the near future.
“Depending on their abilities and strengths, students who pass the scholarship will be assigned to suitable high schools in Singapore. I am determined to focus on studying English this summer to achieve IELTS certificates and improve my English presentation skills to apply for this scholarship. If I pass the scholarship, I will be fully sponsored to study 3 years of high school in Singapore,” Long added.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Nguyen Trai Secondary School had 32 students passing the entrance exams to specialized schools (including 2 students, Long and Hieu, passing 3 schools each, 2 students passing 2 schools each). Teacher Nguyen Tai Hoang, Head of the Youth Union of Nguyen Trai Secondary School, said that having worked with Long for 4 years through many school activities, he clearly understood the abilities and qualities of this intelligent and quick-witted student. Therefore, Long's recent passing results into specialized schools did not surprise Mr. Hoang too much.
“Long has been an excellent student for many years. In addition, he is also the Vice President of the Young Reporters Club and Vice President of the Children's Rights Club, so he has been trained in courage, confidence and ability in organizing and designing school activities. He is also a gentle and well-behaved student,” commented Mr. Hoang.
Meanwhile, Hieu is considered a hard-working, good student with good self-study ability. Teacher Hoang advised: "In the near future, your parents will change their workplace, so I hope that when you enter a new learning environment, far away from your parents, you need to make an effort to practice independence and self-study more to achieve good academic results and achieve your goals."
