Based on the investigation and epidemiological analysis, the Phu Yen Provincial Department of Health concluded that the suspected food poisoning case caused by customers eating buffet dishes at Pho Dem Vuon III restaurant on the evening of June 2, with symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea is not enough to conclude food poisoning.

Working with Nhan Dan Newspaper reporters on June 13, Head of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Affairs Department of Phu Yen Province's Department of Health Nguyen Duy Huong said that according to regulations, these cases have epidemiological factors, meaning that they ate at the same food supply facility at the same time and occurred close together, and were hospitalized at similar times. To confirm whether there is food poisoning or not, according to regulations, in the treatment regimen as well as the diagnosis, there must be sampling of specimens.

Food poisoning in Phu Yen: Department of Health issues urgent warning

However, the Dong Hoa Town Medical Center did not take the step of taking samples because the testing department could not provide this technical service. When the Department of Health directed, there were no more samples to take. Meanwhile, the food supplier did not keep food samples, and if they did keep samples, the time the inspection team arrived was already past the prescribed sample storage period, so it was impossible to compare and it was impossible to know whether they ate at this restaurant or another place.

"The leaders of the Department of Health also reviewed the leaders of the Dong Hoa Town Medical Center at the meeting last month," Mr. Nguyen Duy Huong added.

Previously, on June 4, the Phu Yen Provincial Department of Health received information that 7 patients were being treated for suspected food poisoning at the Dong Hoa Town Medical Center. It then coordinated with relevant units and the People's Committee of Ward 7, Tuy Hoa City to monitor and investigate the cause. To date, all 7 patients have been discharged from the hospital and are in stable health.
