Cruise ship owners frustrated as trawlers continue to wreak havoc on Ha Long Bay

Báo Đại Đoàn KếtBáo Đại Đoàn Kết19/12/2024

After the reflection of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper and the intervention of functional forces, only a few days of silence, fishing boats using destructive methods continued to rampage in Ha Long Bay.

In recent days, reporters of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper have received complaints from tourist boat owners in Ha Long Bay about the activities of trawlers causing disturbances to security, order, and waterway traffic.

Images from live clips sent by ship owners show that these ships are fishing with electric iron-framed rakes, paralyzing the seafood before pulling it into the net. The operating range of these destructive fishing vessels is in the core area of Ha Long Bay, right on the tourist route including famous attractions such as Hoa Cuong Cave, Ga Choi Islet, Van Boi Islet... as reported by Dai Doan Ket Newspaper before.

“The fishing takes place openly in broad daylight. Despite the danger, the trawlers approach the tourist boat, forcing us to actively steer to avoid collision,” said Mr. G, a sailor on the tourist boat.

Previously, on November 19, 2024, Dai Doan Ket Newspaper published an article "Trawlers "cause chaos" in Ha Long Bay" reflecting the reality of trawlers and circus boats using electric shock absorbers to sweep seafood on key tourist routes in Ha Long Bay. The exploitation takes place day and night.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Phan Thanh Nghi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ninh province, said: Immediately after the reflection of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, on November 27, 2024, the Department issued document 6690, proposing that the Provincial People's Committee give instructions to the Ha Long Bay Management Board and the functional forces of Ha Long city to strengthen patrols and effectively control fishing activities in Ha Long Bay, ensuring that violations of illegal fishing do not recur.

Below are pictures of trawlers continuing to operate on Ha Long Bay sent to Dai Doan Ket Newspaper by tourist boat owners on December 15 and 16.
