Mr. Le Thanh Hai, Director of the Center for Conservation and Development of Forest Environment and Organisms (under Ben En National Park) said that Ben En National Park is 15,000 hectares wide and located in the two districts of Nhu Xuan and Nhu Thanh (Thanh Hoa). This is considered the home of an extremely diverse ecosystem of animals and plants. It also has primeval forests and a lake of nearly 3,000 hectares.
The ironwood tree stood alone on the side of the road.
In 2022, green lim tree is recognized as a Vietnamese heritage tree.
The nearly 700-year-old green lim tree is considered a "treasure" by local people.
This ancient tree has a very large diameter, two people cannot hug it around.
According to the records of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE), the green lim tree in Ben En National Park is 688 years old this year, nearly 30m high, with a canopy diameter of about 20m and a circumference of about 6m.
According to Mr. Hai, around the 90s of the 20th century, before the decision to establish Ben En National Park, rare and valuable plant species (green lim, goi) were exhausted, but for some reason this lim tree is still intact.
The tree trunk has many bumps and lumps creating a sturdy shape.
One corner of the tree trunk is rotten, so cement and other materials must be used to protect it.
Lim trees are strictly protected by the people of the two communes. Ben En National Park also has a control station (consisting of 3 officers) that regularly patrols, protects the forest and ensures the safety of the trees.
