The all-new Lexus Sports concept bears many similarities to the LFA and LC500 coupe, while revealing the sporty design direction for the next generation of Lexus vehicles. Although technical details have not been announced, Lexus confirmed that this concept supercar will be equipped with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, rear-wheel drive, most likely with a rear transaxle gearbox. This is a configuration that is highly appreciated for its weight distribution ability.
Toyota also plans to have a similar model, but it will not be sold in the US market. In particular, the development platform of this concept will be the basis for the new generation Toyota GT3 for racing. The Sports Concept attracts attention with many bold aerodynamic details. The car has an exhaust system located right below the rear spoiler, not only creating an impressive visual effect but also imbued with the supercar spirit.
The large air intake at the rear of the car recalls the familiar image of the legendary LFA, while the air intake cluster arranged behind the window is said to take on the role of cooling the brakes or gearbox. The distinctive highlight lies in the high brake light cluster integrated with four small fans, a detail rarely seen on commercial vehicles but clearly demonstrates Lexus' creative ambition. Notably, this concept model does not have a complete interior and the tires have had all logos removed, except for the Bridgestone brand.
Lexus says the car was developed with reference to the Mercedes-AMG GT R, one of the most successful front-engine, rear transaxle sports cars of the past decade. Video : New Lexus Sports Concept - "reviving" the LFA supercar.
