Don't let your child go astray

Children may stumble, but if family is their support, they will return.

Late afternoon. The apartment building yard was quiet, Mrs. Ngoc was watering the plants. Ms. Luong rushed in, her eyes red. Seeing that, Mrs. Ngoc asked:

- Hey, Luong! What's wrong?

Sitting down on the chair, Ms. Luong choked up:

- Le, she left home three days ago, uncle. I just found her this morning in Phu Thai… I'm still in shock.

- Oh my God! Why did you run away from home? She was such a good girl…

- She was lured by a stranger through TikTok. A young man claiming to be the manager of an entertainment channel invited her to film a commercial with the promise of earning a few million a day. He hid it from her, secretly took her savings, and took a motorbike taxi to leave home. Luckily, she reported it to the police in time. The police used the phone's location to find her at a motel near the old 5th Street.

- So there is another case… Last week, I just read the news, an 18-year-old girl in An Bien ward was texted by a bad person pretending to be a police officer, tricked into leaving her home, rented a hotel room and asked to transfer money to the subject’s account, luckily she was rescued in time. Before that, in Hanoi, a 13-year-old boy texted a stranger and was lured to leave home to meet this person in Cambodia, luckily he was found by the police and his family before crossing the border, otherwise who knows what the consequences would have been…

- Every day the loudspeakers warn about the situation of minors being scammed online, but I don't believe it happened to my family. He came home, sobbing and said: "I thought you didn't care about me anymore... I'm so bored, I'm bad at studying and you scold me, when I go out I get compared, only people see my value."

Wiping away her tears, Ms. Luong continued:

- It's my fault, uncle. For the past few years, I've been busy working, only checking my grades at night, and not using my phone. I brushed it off no matter what my child said. Now I realize I was wrong.

- Children today are vulnerable, surrounded by social networks. The bad guys are sophisticated, saying sweet words, hitting the psychology of teenagers.

- Unfortunately, many parents think that just giving their children an education is enough, without knowing their psychology... After this incident, I changed my mind. I asked to change my shift, every night I stay home to eat, talk, and confide in my child. I also registered my child for a life skills class to equip him with the skills to protect himself in cyberspace.

- You are right to change your way of thinking and doing. In Hai Phong , schools coordinate with the police and youth union to carry out many activities to prevent fraud and school violence. But not only teach your children to avoid traps, but you also have to rebuild trust with them, show them that home is the safest place.

- That's right, sir. I also contacted the homeroom teacher and asked the school to provide psychological counseling. I also learned how to be friends with my child again, no longer the mother who always scolds, but the child who dares to tell everything .

Mrs. Ngoc continued:

- If every family thought like that, perhaps no child would leave home because of the tempting messages of scammers. I always believe that children can stumble, but if the family is a support, they will return.
