Chelsea want to sign Donnarumma this summer. |
Under coach Enzo Maresca, Chelsea have made the goalkeeper position a priority for upgrading this summer, after Robert Sanchez failed to show consistency last season. Previously, "The Blues" negotiated with AC Milan to buy Mike Maignan but failed because the Italian team asked for 20 million pounds, even though Maignan only had 1 year left on his contract.
Similarly, Donnarumma also has only 1 year left on his contract with PSG. L'Equipe revealed that the two sides have been negotiating a new contract for many months, but the biggest problem is the salary of up to 850,000 euros/month before bonuses.
PSG's board of directors considers this a financial burden and is considering alternative options, with Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier being targeted by Sporting Director Luis Campos.
Taking advantage of that opportunity, Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to act if PSG fail to reach an agreement to extend Donnarumma's contract after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™.
Donnarumma personally still wants to stay in Paris. Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this year, the 26-year-old goalkeeper confirmed: "There are many rumors but the truth is that I feel very good here. Everyone loves and respects me. My priority is still to extend my contract with PSG."
However, if PSG really decide to change the goalkeeper position, Chelsea can completely turn Donnarumma into the next blockbuster transfer under the Maresca dynasty.
